The Scarecrow's 1997 Genuine RZ VVT-i Supra From AUSTRALIA
Terminator replied to a topic in New Members
Hi Trent, good to see some one so committed to their car. Also some sensible mods to start off, good of clutch choice with the Giken clutch, had the twin in a Skyline, lovely clutch. You have a good looking car, which you obviously love to bits. -
Last time I was a Rockingham, I was very kindly offer and willingly accepted a ride a ride in one of these. If I remember correctly this one had two Bussa engines in it. Now I really like may cars fast, really fast, but all I could say after a few laps was OMFG! The track was nearly empty at the end of the day so well rubbered in, so the driver went for it with near perfect lines in all by two corners. Even with my extra 80kgs in the car, what a hell of a ride, traction immense, corning ability unreal, braking spine snapping, acceleration out of this world. Overall impression - incredible - the most memorable in car experience ever.

Just an up date on Belle. She has really settle in, has a lovely nature and has just grown and grown, she must be just over a year old now, weighing in at 5.2kg and is as big as our long haired Tom cat, one of the largest cats in the area, who has been known to frighten dog owners by doing an impersonation of a Black Panther. I am not joking I over heard dog owners who refuse to take their dog down a local walk near by due to panther rumours, but that is another story. We researched several Forest Breeds and had a Norwegian Forest breeder take a look at her and he is not quite sure what she is, but she has traits from two of the largest domestic cat breeds, Maine Coon, and Norwegian Forest and could even be a MC/NF cross. For those that don't know, these breeds they largest in the cat family and the only types of domestic cat that can climb down trees going forwards, due to their short front, long rear leg combination, they can also climb walls, they are amazing hunters too. Belle has another 2 years of growing to do and a further years before she get her first spectacular winter coat, so she is going to be huge. We have been so taken by this breed that one of my sons has bought a pedigree Norwegian Forest boy called Billy, he will end up 2- 3 kgs heavier than Belle when he is fully grown at 3 - 4 years old. There is another, Billy's cousin on whom we have first refusal as we just love the nature and high intelligence of theses cats, they get on so well with all our other animals as well. Will post some updated pics later.

The finish on the inside, where the tyre sits looks amazing, great attention to detail Ibrar.

I assume the only only undrilled ones are going to be new, so loosing the cheap wheel option. Or is there an option with the adaptors to have locator lugs with a different pcd to the standard fixings? All the ones I have found, some cheaper than £1200, are matched pcd. -

Cheers Chris. I assume these work by replacing the existing nuts with studs that locate in the back of the wheel, if so are 114.3 pcd holes common in centre lock wheels? -

Thanks Chris, I must have missed your post when browsing on my phone. Very interested in the centre lock approach, what sort of money are we talking about, any links appreciated. -
I don't know what the ones I tested were machine from, I never tested them for alloy content. I still have one as a overweight, so I'll run a PMI, test on it the next time I am home. I wanted to be sure they were strong enough to survive in a car for track use. The dye test results were poor enough to make me concerned about their strength. If you combine this weakness with a slightly off centre out of balance machining, then in my opinion it was a recipe for accelerated failure. For the few grams of difference in rotating mass theses thing make they are not worth the risk. They are just poor quality unnecessary engine bay bling, not suited to a high performance engine bay.
-
I would not touch these with a bargepole. I had a good look a set and the quality of the metal used is poor, grain structures consistent with very cheap alloy, some micro cracking evident when subjected to dye testing. OK as over priced paperweights but not fit for use on a car.

Thanka Wez, I did look at Advan 18" but the off set is low. I am sure Chris would say best to get wheels as close to stock offset as possible for optimum handling. If I am putting £6K into suspension, I want to get the optimum handling so wheel choice is really important, hence considering custom wheels in the absence of an off the shelf option. I am hoping that Ryan will sort out some good maps on the Saves for me. -

I need to get some lighter wheels for the track. Not concerned about looks I just want the best setup to go with my Ikeya bits. I am really not sure where to look. Would 17" be best if I can fit them over my brakes. I would consider getting some made to get the best suspension, wheel and tyre combination. Any ideas? -
How to make the Supra more responsive??
Terminator replied to ManwithSupra's topic in mkiv Technical
My engine and induction has had a lot of what Chris mentioned, it certainly is far more responsive than stock. However, it all comes at a relativel large cost. -
For a moment I had visions of a parts mega store, but then it turned horribly wrong every thing with MFI type instructions, bits missing etc.

For some reason IKEA is on my phone so it keeps correcting Ikeya, don't know why, never been to IKEA and no intention of going. Post edited now.

Just a quick update on track preparations so far, thanks Chris and Nic, for helping me decide upon my suspension and handling upgrades. For improved traction in and out of corners, the Giken Suprlock diff. The performance, longevity and engineering quality of these units are top class and rated highly throughout the racing world. For improved circuit handling, I am hoping this combination will be hard to beat; Ikeya Formula suspension components, Chris Wilson revalved Bilsteins and Chris Wilson Spec Eibach springs. All of the above fitted and tuned to perfection by Chris.

[quote name=Jellybean Alot of members seem to have the shield removed altogether[/quote] Toyota put it there to protect the master cylinder, but what do they know;). Mine is lined back and front with fire resistant reflective foil insulation tape, I like a clutch that works, under all conditions.

rant Another rant, bloody low energy light bulbs
Terminator replied to Chris Wilson's topic in Off Topic
New LED technology is rubbish also, bough some multi LED (50millon hours bollocks) spots for the kitchen 9 months ago one is dead and the others are getting dim. Need to stock up on security light 500watt bulbs, tried a Low energy one, absolute rubbish, local scum bags will have to bring a torch if they want to nic stuff off cars the security light is just too dim. -

You have put such a lot of effort into your car, it just does not make sense to throw another potential weak box at it. The V160 make sense, it will take what ever you can throw at it. -

More of an opportunity than an obstacle;). V160 is really the only option that is proven. -

sold OS Giken Billet Triple plate clutch.
Terminator replied to Terminator's topic in Parts for Sale
It turns out my OS Giken clutch was not what I thought it was and has a higher rating than I believed when purchased, so I have decided to keep it. -

Clean all the pins and use an electrical contact gel on the pins. I had a similar problem, been fine since using the gel.
