  3. thanks for the replies folks it turns out to be the auxillary drive belt tensioner thats gone stiff and the bearing is shot ordered new from local toyota dealer 80 quid plus the dreaded vat, so not too expensive a fix:)
  4. i have just checked heat shield and taken it off, still does it,ive put a screwdiver on to timing belt cover to listen for noise and itsmore like a clicking noise
  5. thanks guys forgot to mention its a n/a and auto, im hoping it nothing sinister
  6. just wanted ideas as to what this noise could be, thought it was the aircon, but it appears when it is not on i am getting a rattle noise from behind the timing belt cover( or this is where it appears to come from). i first noticed it when my air con kicked in on idle , so turned a/c off and the noise is around 850rpm, but goes when any more revs are applied only noticable when bonnet up, but annoying never the less. with the air con on and idling the noise appears everytime the a/c pulley kicks in, but i think this is coincidental. any help greatfully appreciated

  8. to all those viewing just had adjustment arms fitted absolute nightmare to take old ones off 3 hours of hard graft. car drives like a dog but in for adjustment tomorrow should be the business after that. for information toyota supplied arm and bolt for 80 quid a side. will post details on handling as soon as adjustment and new tyres fitted tomorrow
  9. thanks for the fast reply chris had car on ramps today at my mates garage, managed to free off the nut but the bolt is just turning with the rubber bush, i have ordered parts from toyota through him at trade they have ordered the arm and the bolt 90 quid a side does this sound too cheap like they have the wrong part or is that about right.
  10. Afterm as much help as possible please. rear tyre has worn on inner edge in about 4000 miles so as per other threads took car for a full alighment checkup ie caster, camber and toe. The machine showed that all the cambers were within tolerance but the rear toe needed adjusting as the thrust angle was incorrect. All was good until they tried adjusting the necessary parts, and found that althought the nut was easy to undo the bolt side appeared to be ceased,( is this a common problem) they recommended that i get new arms for the rear is this the only alternative or is there another option toyota have quoted 125 quid +vat for each side this seems cheap so do you think they havent quoted for the correct parts any help greatly appreciated, also handling is shocking , 40 mph on roundabout and rear end starts to slide im assumin this is due to incorrect rear toe setting HELP

    low mpg

i am currently getting about 11-12 mpg from mkiv n/a auto i have tested for fault codes are none are present . the 2nd cat has been removed and im running a stainless exhaust system, with blitz sus air filter, and iridium spark plugs, car is always serviced regularly i only have a 4 mile trip to work and am wondering if this poor mpg is due to short distance travel any ideas welcomed .
