Right, i've finaly got my internet sorted and i've been playing gears of war & test drive online. I'm gonna add everyone to my friends list, hope thats ok. With it being an NA it's an open diff.. Would love to get a TRD diff but i'm skint at the mo and need to get it back on the road asap as it's my only car & i need it for work. I've found an exact replacement from a 1996 NA manual at the right price & local. Unless anyone knows of a lsd diff that will fit going cheap? I'm going to get the wheel bearing checked but i thought this would just make a droning noise and not make the wheels feel like they're snatching.. thanks for the advice

Went for a curry tonight and drove there with a couple of mates in the car. As we got there and I started to slow down the car started making random clunking & banging noises from the rear wheels. It sounded like the rear brakes were sticking & snatching I went straight home after and it seems to do it when driving under 20mph.. Like the rear wheels are locking up. I checked when I got home & the rear discs weren’t even warm! I’ve had a good search on here and it sounds like the rear diff has broken & maybe some teeth have broken off.. I’m guessing that when I hit the kerb the other day (dodging the tree) it must have fractured the teeth and tonight one of them broke off!.. I’ll hopefully be taking it to the garage on Monday for a full diagnosis, I’m just praying it makes it there without the rest of the teeth stripping off!... Luckily, I think I’ve already managed to source a replacement diff but what sort of price (labour etc) will I be looking at to get it fitted? Is it a difficult/big job? Anyone think it might be something else other than the diff? Cheers for your help, it’s much appreciated, Rob. P.S. the worst thing is that I hardly ate any of my curry because I was worrying about what was wrong with my car!

I'd get it checked. It's really easy to do yourself (only 2 bolts to remove the caliper) or get the garage to do it. If you find the shims are still fitted then lots of copper grease on the back of the brake pad is supposed to cure it.. You do need to put quite a bit on though..

Did you fit the anti-squeal shims with the brake pads?

Yep, i saw this on tv as well.. your car acts as a 'Faraday cage' which shields you from the electricity... Just make sure your not touching the windows and you'll be fine

It was definitely a Final Destination moment! Thinking about it, better to go up the kerb than have a tree stump lodged in my forehead! Pretty sure it would of trashed my car if it had hit me, lucky there were no pedestrians…

I'll probably go for 18's next time i get new wheels. Mainly due to the tyre prices. There's not a big difference in looks if you go for the right ones.

Mine is on 19's and handles very well.. Just make sure they're set up right. Correct tyre sizes, wheel offset etc...

I was on my way home for work today at around 4pm today. Got to a section of road about 1 mile from my house just coming off a roundabout when half a tree came flying across the road! I instantly swerved and managed to miss it but ended up going straight up the kerb with both passenger side wheels!!.. I was less than a mile from my house so instinct told me ‘get home quick before your tyres go flat!’ I didn’t want to end up being towed or changing wheels.. Pulled on my drive absolutely sh*tting myself expecting to have blown both tyres and buckled the wheels! Luckily, turns out the tyres were fine & there was only two very minor kerb marks. No worse than the one’s already on the wheels. Phew!!.. I phoned my mate at the garage and took it straight down to get it checked over. Had it up on the ramps for a good half hour and everything seems to be fine. Tracking is a couple of mm out so I need to get that sorted at some point. We couldn’t do it there and then because the adjuster has seized up and they were closing for the night…. I’m just relieved that it didn’t do too much damage. I would have been gutted! When I did a similar thing in my Astra a couple of years ago it blew both tyres and bent the steering arms. I’m lucky I was driving slowly when I mounted the kerb! There's a million and one car's i'd buy if/when i have the money.. I'd love a Lambo murcielago but my fave car at the minute has got to be the Techart Porsche 997 Turbo... Pure sex on wheels!... It's seems the only logical step after a white soop & you don't see many(any) about! Quite a few Lambo's & Ferrari's around here though
