  1. I'm with Elephant and it's a lucky dip who you get on the other end of the phone! Sometimes they know a lot and sometimes they know nothing. I had my NA insured with elephant for a few years and that had the correct engine size on the document (i'll double check later). It may be worth phoning back and hopefully speaking to a different person. The first person i spoke to said i couldn't insure my NA-TT. The second time i phoned they said i could!
  2. I opened mine up to try and fix it. You can clean the valve, magnet, spring etc but it think it's the electrical part (which is sealed) that breaks. Mine functioned fine off the car & tested with a multimeter, but when in the hot engine bay it just didn't work Nope. It's the Intake/Inlet Air Control Valve - Vacuum Switching Valve. It's part of the Sequential system. They're usually easily confused on here!

  4. The IACV VSV is around £80 new from Toyota. Paul Whiffin got me one recently The bigger vsv's (EBV and Wastgate VSV) are a lot more expensive. I went through a few second hand IACV VSV's but they were all a bit ropey. I think they just die with age. I'm guessing the engine heat makes the electrical contacts break up inside. HTH
  5. I'm very jealous!! (about the car AND the house;)) Good luck & hope everything works out for you!
  6. Well my first W58 went bang with no warning whatsoever! I was just driving along very gently and there was a loud bang! The second time i was testing out the RLTC launch control in the dry so it was partly my fault lol
  7. excellent project! looking forward to the outcome! Subscribed!
  8. I'm on my 3rd W58 now! Both lasted about 12 months on my NA-TT running around 400bhp. They're good with a standard TT but as soon as you crank the boost up it's just a waiting game! Especially if, like me, you like to push the car on the odd occasion. I've finaly bit the bullet and I'm dropping a V161 in it now
  9. A bargain car for the price! No doubt it will go abroad. Good luck with the sale Rich, someone's going to end up with an amazing sample of a car!

    Jae 2010

WTF?? I was really looking forward to going after last year! Me & the gf had a really good time! Isn't Ray organising it? It says 'JAE 2010 Organiser' under his user name??
  14. Most of the ones Jurgen has been selling seem to be v161. (I've got one on the way (can't wait!) ) After trawling through numerous threads on supraforums it seems the v160 had two casings (an old one and an updated one with a beefier center section). All of the V161's came with the newer casing and also the newer type synchro gears. It's argued that the casing isn't important but toyota/getrag put money & time into updating it so there must have been some reason. Also, the V161 is more likely to be lower milage due to being newer. hth one of the supraforums threads - http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=570111
  15. Any reason why the v160 over the v161? I thought the V161's were newer and have a slightly better gear ratio?
  16. Some information about the W58 NA gearbox to update the first post (taken from the service manuals) 5-Speed Manual W58 (NA only) Capacity = 2.6 litres Recommended Oil = Any 75w/90 Gear oil should be ok. Motul Gear300 is a good option. Stock Oil = SAE 75W-90/API GL-5 Gear Oil Interval = Check transmission fluid level every 15,000 miles or 24 months. Service interval is not available for vehicles operated under normal conditions. Replace transmission fluid every 15,000 miles or 24 months if used under severe / heavy conditions
  17. W58's are getting harder to find as both Dr Jekyll and i know W58 - £250 - £350 (depending on how lucky you are) R154 - £500 - £600+ last time i looked V160/V161 - Around £1500 for the box only (that's if you can find one as most people sell them as an auto to manual conversion for around (£2500)
  18. What diffs are on the cars? I'd be interested if there's a TT Manual diff available?
  19. RIP Dio!! Ride the Tiger!!
  20. The NA diff casing is the same as the TT auto, and late TT manual (small casing). Only the early TT6 and UK specs had the larger diff (large casing). If the diffs on ebay fit the TT auto, or TT manual facelift then it will also fit your NA hth.
  21. Factory LSD's for the NA are very rare and hardly ever come up for sale! If you're desperate for an LSD diff you can buy them to fit the NA casing. TRD, Cusco, Kaaz etc all make them. You're talking big money though!
  22. That's the funniest thing i've seen for ages! I actually lol'd!!
  23. lol, how about in the thread that you've already posted! http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=213296 If that doesn't work try the search button. Lots of people have had central locking problems because the cold winter seemed to damage the relays; http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=176845 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=207731
