Hi Mark & welcome. Car looks great. Would also love to see some more photos if you don’t mind. How long have you owned this as I’m sure it was in one of the Jap car mags a while back (Japanese Performance or Banzai). Must turn some heads when you drive it. All the best, Pete

Fair enough mate. Did someone say Hypertune? Lol. Got mine to go on in the new year along with the next stage of work, so completely understand where you’re coming from. I’ll be looking at Precision for my single turbo, but there are lots to choose from these days. Best of luck with it and do keep us posted on how you get on.

Finding one brand new V161 is pretty rare, but finding two?! Amazed you managed to find them, but I guess if you’re willing to pay for the right bits, they are out there. Very nice.

Lol, it’s fine mate. Be interesting to see how you get on and if you buy one. I’ll bet it doesn’t last long if you do! Lol.

Welcome! Nice purchase, manual which lots of people will like and looks in good shape. I’d ditch the T88 for something more modern and duel bearing to improve response and reduce the lag, but nice start point for sure. Cheers. Pete

Stock discs I believe with Porterfield R4S pads mate. Won’t have the stopping power the K-Sport’s did, but should be fine for a bit. Had to change them to clear the new wheels. Guess if I’d gone 19’s it would have cleared, but didn’t want to go bigger than 18’s. -

Thank you mate, much appreciated. So car is still with SRD, waiting on the back order front U.K. spec caliper. Lee and Mike think the cutout issue was due to the stock throttle body. They’ve fitted a Bosch throttle body to the stock manifold, and now running DBW so pedal and wiring all fitted. Initial tests have been good so hopefully that’s sorted it. More updates to follow. -
Nice work and sounds like a busy but productive couple of weeks ahead as well. Coming together and look forward to seeing more updates.

All items bought were posted as promised today and tracking references sent to buyers. Hope they all like their purchases and do let me know if you are interested in any of the last bits I have to sell. Cheers all. Pete

Any offers or interest in the last few bits? Still got the ecu, clock and AFR gauge to re-home. PM or post here if you are interested. Cheers folks. Pete

HKS SLD also now sold and paid.

Sold and paid. Original post updated. Sold and paid. Original post updated. Cheers both and I’ll be getting those bits posted out hopefully on Thursday. Will send you tracking details as discussed. Many thanks. Pete

Afternoon All, Looking to re-home a few bits that are no longer needed since I went SYVECS on my car. Also got a good condition Tiptronic steering wheel complete with airbag. All prices are based on collection from Kent, but happy to arrange postage at buyers cost on top. Bank transfer preferred, but happy to do cash on collection or PayPal if you cover the fees. OEM VVT-i Tiptronic ECU - was in good working order prior to removal. Would like £250obo. HKS EVC 6 boost controller - will need to source/supply your own vacuum lines as the ones it had weren’t great. Main bits all here so screen, wiring, vacuum unit etc. I’d like £100obo. NOW SOLD/PAID. Series 1/Early type AEM AFR gauge - complete and hardly used as it was only fitted briefly before being removed to run the SYVECS. Has the different faces, bezel covers etc. I’d like £80obo. Prosport 52mm clock analogue gauge. Looks the part when fitted and has either a blue or white illumination. I’d like £40obo. See photo of dash illuminated and the clock is below the open door warning indicator beside the steering wheel I’m also selling. HKS SLD type 2 presumably for Supra facelift VVT-i tiptronic model as it was on my car. Would like £60obo. NOW SOLD/PAID. Last up is my good condition facelift tiptronic leather steering wheel complete with airbag. Wiring is complete as we used a Celica Gen 7 airbag plug to make the loom for my new flappy paddle Yaris wheel. Wires were stripped back by SRD to check connections, but can be easily taped and will work fine. I’d like £200obo. NOW SOLD/PAID. Happy to answer any questions either here or via PM. I’d say U.K. postage will be around £10-20 tops and obviously if you buy more items will be better value. Cheers folks. Pete

Pretty sure I’m 100% SYVECS, with the gearbox control and intake being done via the slave board in the SYVECS. Hence the surge shut down the slave which disabled the gearbox control etc. No, I’ve only bought the Hypertune for now as Lee had it and did me a good deal on it ready for the the next stage of my build. Won’t be going on till around March next year. -

Spot on. Bought a used Lexus LS400 series 2 diff that SRD will strip down, replace with OS Giken and one of their lovely small diff covers (work of art). -

Afternoon folks. So still waiting for news from Lee/SRD on what is causing the surge, hoping it’s nothing too serious or expensive. In other exciting news, Lee had this available for the next stage in my build which will see the throttle body swapped out for drive by wire (DBW), this gorgeous Hypertune intake fitted, updated fuel system, GTR coil pack conversion and hopefully single kit along with the 8-speed gearbox swap and uprated rear diff. Have to see how the budget goes, as I may leave the single conversion for now and just enjoy the car for a bit at BPU. Do love a Hypertune. -

So car is back with SRD. Lee took it out straight away to see what was happening and it looks like the slave board on the SYVECS is turning off because of something it doesn’t like drawing too much current. As a result, it shuts down the gearbox control and throttle body control. This in turn causes a throttle error and the ecu turns the car off for safety. Long and short, Lee and SRD now need to find out what is causing the surge/extra load on the car that triggers the slave to turn off. I’ll post an update when I hear more. -
Nice progress mate. What was the root cause of the drivers window not working? Spotted it took you 2hrs to diagnose. All coming together nicely though.

Indeed. So I know the OEM tiptronic ECU has been removed (currently in a bag in the garage). Don’t think the gearbox ECU has been removed, so I believe the SYVECS is working in conjunction with that, but SRD would know for definite. I’ll ask Lee later when I see him and confirm. -

Lol, thanks mate. I did the first time it happened on the drive home from SRD on Friday, but was ready for it driving to the venue and home today. It’s certainly unnerving when it just cuts for no apparent reason, but I’ve got better at staying calm, selecting neutral, restarting the car and putting it back in drive. Think Lee is going to look at it for me so hopefully they can figure out why it’s doing it and make it better. Won’t be long hopefully till the 8-speed gearbox swap, so don’t really want to spend a lot fixing it. Guess we’ll see how they get on when they take another look at it this week. -

Hey Folks, So we made it to Reading for the end of season show with the GT Tuners Club this weekend. Car was looking good, but it’s not running properly with the SYVECS and the tiptronic (now paddle shift) gearbox. Basically keeps cutting out and stalling on me, especially when you first start it up and try to move from park to drive. Cut a few times on the motorway for no apparent reason as well, so it’s headed back to Lee/SRD tomorrow. Hoping it can be fixed, as it makes me nervous and ruins the enjoyment. Looking nice though.
