My Supra - Progress so far, next steps and build thread
Peter P replied to Peter P's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
Indeed, obviously it’s Driftworks call initially to offer me a repair or replacement I guess. Given these weren’t cheap, I’d probably opt for replacement, but just depends on lead time. If they can just get a new lip and switch it carefully as you say, I’d be happy with that. Was hoping they’d email me today, but nothing as yet. Waiting game I guess. -

Small update. So the new controllers for the headlight halo’s should be getting to Matt / M H bodywork tomorrow. Spoke to Driftworks this morning, they are going to let me know what my options are in terms of next steps. Sounds like I may have a choice between having it repaired or replaced, but a lot will depend on the lead time as don’t really want to wait another 6-8 months for a new one if at all possible. I’ll update here when I know more. -

Looks good mate. It’s a lengthy and time consuming process for sure, but the end results will make it all worthwhile. Keep the updates coming. -

Thanks mate. As I say, first email was to Driftworks. Hoping to hear back from them so I can figure out what the next step will be. Don’t really want to wait another 7-8 months, but agree given the cost a new one would be my first preference. I’ll see what they say and go from there, but not going to do anything till I have spoken to Driftworks. -

Thanks Ben. Will try them if I get no luck with the other places. Difficulty is the copper finish as not sure it could be matched if they do have to weld it. -

Thanks Ben. If I’m being totally honest I would happily get it repaired, but not sure if that’s even an option. I’ve reached out to Driftworks and also left a message for Lepsons to call me to see if it can be repaired, if so, I’ll do that and worry about compensation later I guess. Just want my new wheels on the car, but who knows if that’s going to happen anytime soon mate. -

Thank you mate, really hope so as it was gutting to get so close, and then fall at the final wheel. Does mean I’ll probably have to show the car at Go Japan on my existing wheels, but I’d settle for that at this point. Just praying the rest goes without any further disasters, seems to be one thing after another! -
May have to hold on to these a bit longer (see my build thread). One of the new wheels is damaged so until I can get that fixed or replaced, I’ll need these to stay on the car. Will update when I know more. Thanks. Pete

Afternoon Folks, So what started off as a great day has ended in tears (mine!). Took my new wheels to get the tyres fitted and 3 of them are done and look amazing (see photos) sadly the 4th wheel (one of the fronts) has been dented in transit. Outer lip as well, so not sure what to do now. I’ve emailed Driftworks to see if they can help, but last thing I need is to wait another 8 odd months for a replacement! Car was due to have these fitted this coming week before going to SRD and then the Go Japan show. I’m so gutted, just feels like fate doesn’t want me to finish the car or get any enjoyment out of it. The headlights were almost a disaster as well. Clearly the courier re-packed them after the box was split open, but thankfully the actual headlights are fine and got here safe some how. Unfortunately they did manage to lose one of the controller units, so didn’t look like these would be ready either for the show. Thankfully Harry being the legend he is has managed to get replacements on the way and they should arrive middle of the week and are going straight to Matt at M H Bodywork to fit. Just gutting car won’t be wearing these lovely wheels unless a miracle happens. -
Little bump, now on Facebay as well. These will be available next week for collection.

Thank you mate, just trying to help other forum members out by charging a fair amount to help recoup some of the costs. Glad you think it’s a fair price, as don’t want to be silly about it or rip anyone off. If I didn’t have the Work wheels, I’d probably keep them as they are a really nice wheel and pretty lightweight as well. Wasn’t sure how they would look against the grey, but surprisingly they look really good. The fact they clear big brakes as well is a real plus point. Fingers crossed someone wants to buy them.

I know a couple of the photos show different (Goodyear) tyres, these were all replaced as I wanted a full set of one make/model. It’s running the Yoko’s as seen in the newer photos where the car is now grey (not black).

Afternoon All, So my new Work wheels finally showed up this week, will mean my existing Rota’s with very nice grippy tyres are up for sale. Did have a buyer lined up, but unfortunately he’s no longer able to afford them. So these are currently in a nice dark copper metallic finish (but can easily be redone in any colour). Looked amazing against black paint, but would work with most colours I reckon (white, red, silver etc). Finish is flawless/as new and these comfortably clear my big K Sport brakes so should be fine for U.K. spec brakes etc. No spacers as far as I am aware. Sizes are 8.5 front, 9.5 rear and they are wearing some super grippy Yoko Advan AD08 R’s all round. Front tyres are 235/40/18 and rears are 265/35/18. Fronts were new and have done less than a 100 miles and rears were part used but had 5mm tread and probably still do as my car wasn’t used/was in the bodyshop for best part of a year. No cracks or flat spots as bodyshop moved it around on and off every week. These are located in Higham, Kent. Post code is ME3 7JX and I’d prefer collection, but can pass to a Courier if you want to use one and set it all up. Don’t have any boxes big enough to send wheels and tyres, but can wrap in bin bags and tape if needed. I would like £700 for the set, which I think is a fair price as tyres alone cost me that. Will be available next week for collection and happy to meet somewhere if needed if you can cover petrol. Any questions, PM or post here. Cheers. Pete

Hey Folks, So exciting times, both my reworked headlights and new Work wheels showed up yesterday. I haven’t had a chance to snap any photos yet, but the headlights are already with Matt at M H Bodywork to hopefully install and wire up today. Wheels and tyres are due to be married up this Sunday, then fitted next week. Car will then be ready for trailering to SRD. Think young James is coming Saturday week to get it, and then the guys are going to crack on that following week so it’s ready for me to collect and drive to the Go Japan show at Brands Hatch on Sunday 26th September. I did peek at both the headlights and wheels yesterday, both look stunning and should compliment the project really well. I will get some photos up shortly. Cheers for now. Pete -
Very nice! Those really are things of beauty, should look incredible once they are housed in the engine bay.
-
Will do mate. Hopefully getting them swapped out in the next few weeks, so will let you know how they look once SRD have removed them mate. Be in touch. Cheers. Pete

Hi mate, May be able to help with a set of coilovers fairly soon. Obviously depends on how they look when SRD fit my new HKS setup, but if they are good and not leaking then I’d sell them to you for a fair price. Believe the car is running HSD’s from Whifbitz (these ones https://www.garagewhifbitz.co.uk/hsd-suspension-3383-3997.html ), and they aren’t that old as think Mike fitted them to the car not long before I got it. If they come out and are leak free and in good shape I’ll let you know mate. Cheers. Pete

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Aesthetically the project will be done soon hopefully, but still got a long way to go on the other stuff. The headlights and wheels will be going on, then it’s over to SRD to do new suspension, new radiator, BPU work, full service, new steering wheel install, new TRD early style engine mounts with Whifbitz bracket conversion, gearbox cooler, AEM AFR gauge install, new pedal covers and the all important MOT so it’s road legal. After that it will be time for the 8-speed ISF gearbox conversion, uprated LS400 MK2 rear diff with OS Giken internals, SYVECS S7+ ecu install and setup along with Burna’s button shifter conversion. Last up will be full engine build based on a 3.4L stroker kit and single turbo conversion. Probably another 2yrs of saving at least to get all this done, but should be quite the example when it’s done. -

So both headlights are now pretty much done. Harry has done a stunning job with these, just a final clean before they can be packed up and sent back to me. Can’t thank him enough as the work and effort that’s gone in to these is phenomenal. Thank you again mate, can’t wait to have these back on the car. New wheels should have arrived at Driftworks today, hoping they pass inspection and are dispatched early next week. If so, it’s tyre fitting time and we can get them and the headlights fitted so the car can go to Lee P and the guys at SRD for the next phase before it gets a maiden outing for Go Japan at Brands Hatch later this month. -
So I’ve bitten the bullet and got my entry tickets and also signed the car up for the Show ‘n’ shine competition which sorts out parking for me at least. Doesn’t seem like we will be having a club stand at this point, but if we do I will be popping round for sure. Just got to pray it gets finished in time now.
-
Only issue being that won’t guarantee we are all in the same area. Ideally we need a club stand so all of us are able to park up together. If any mods can chime in and confirm what we need for a club stand, that would be the best option. Pretty sure Rob Barnes of Sumo Power fame is involved in this, if so, I know Rob well from when we used to run the Whifbitz Time Attack cars. Happy to message him, but I’m guessing we need more than 3 of us.

Funnily enough I was just posting on your thread about Go Japan in the events section! Lol. Hoping to have enough done to at least drive the car to Brands for the show, may not have all the work I’ve paid for with SRD done by then, but as long as it’s MOT’d, serviced and has the new radiator fitted I’m planning to attend mate. -
Interested in knowing the answer to this myself, as trying to decide where to show mine as it should in theory be finished and ready for this. Do we have a stand and/or much interest in attending? Think we are running out of time to book a club stand (show is on the 26th September). Cheers. Pete

Afternoon Folks, So couple of updates today. First up the Supra, Harry has finished one of my headlights after a lot of fettling to get the carbon inserts to fit nicely. Think you’ll agree these should look epic when they are finished and back on the car. Huge thanks to Harry for his efforts and hard work, I know these are proving to me a royal PITA, so really appreciate your efforts and patience mate. My Works wheels are also due to reach Driftworks tomorrow, so provided they pass their checks and inspection I should get them later this week/early next week hopefully. Last up for today is an update on the garage work. Ramp went in last Friday and is pretty much fully dried/ready to use now. Thankfully won’t have a car on it for at least another week or two, so should be rock solid by then. I’ve finished building the work station and putting up my tools, cleaning stuff and banners etc. Got my mate/sparky coming after work today hopefully to install the new lights and plug sockets/switches etc. Just got the last of my brothers stuff to clear and the tyres will go when the new wheels arrive obviously. Pretty happy with how it looks.
