  1. The highway code says "cars, light vans and light trailors must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tread and around the entire circumference." Can't see why it would be different for 4x4 tyres though?
  2. The problem with these for me is you can't drive on tarmac with them on.
  3. Both Supras I've had have felt absolutely planted at the back end with a TRD spoiler on them. I know it isn't scientific but I've done silly speeds several times
  4. Our roads are bad enough as it is. Proper winter tyres should cause you no hassles if you're driving properly.
  5. Winter tyres are fantastic, I can't believe no-one in the UK buys them. In Germany you'd get fined if you abandon your car on the road like half of this country seems to do.
  6. X-type is a good move, as is the Octavia.
  7. I did hear a rumour they were only selling them to existing Aston customers. Apparently over half of the buyers of the new One-77 hypercar also bought a Cygnet
  8. Every single car I drive seems to be driven incredibly badly.
  9. It's been covered quite a lot already: http://www.parkers.co.uk/News/News/Electric-car-grant-sparks-in-to-life/ The nine cars qualifying are: Mitsubishi i-MiEV - January 2011 smart fortwo electric drive - January 2011 Peugeot iOn - January 2011 Nissan Leaf - March 2011 Tata Vista - March 2011 Citroen CZero - Early 2011 Vauxhall Ampera - Early 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid - Early 2012 Chevrolet Volt - Early 2012 The best is the Leaf, the iOn a close second but I bet the Prius will be good too. Haven't driven that yet.
  10. It's going to be £5k off the price of a choice of nine electric cars. Thing is, most people won't buy them anyway. They'll lease them because it makes more sense as servicing etc is included. The £5k is then absorbed in the deal and the consumer actually doesn't see the difference. Quite clever when you think about it. Company car drivers will benefit most, because company car tax isn't payable on non-CO2 emitting cars. A 2.0-litre Astra will cost more to run than an electric car.
  11. This is a good point too. The build quality really isn't great.
  12. The Smart car screams all the wrong things to me. Sorry.
  13. If you're lucky. It was featured on Watchdog because of the laughable MPG claims. Besides, it's horrific to drive IMO. The perfect town car for me is the Fiat 500 twin air.
  14. Kill it. Kill it now! In all seriousness, we have one of the new CDI ones in the office this week for a test. Should be interesting... they're becoming famous for optimistic MPG claims.
  15. You get more for your money from the Skoda IMO. Have a look on Autotrader. There aren't any decent BlueMotion cars in budget
  16. The Polo BlueMotion is exactly the car you need, but it's too expensive for you. Personally I'd look at the Skoda Fabia TDI. One like this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201049374946939/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/price-to/5000/price-from/4000/fuel-type/diesel/model/fabia/make/skoda/page/1/radius/1501/postcode/pe26ea?logcode=p Have you considered leasing an electric car? £397 per month gets you a Nissan Leaf on a three year PCP deal, only cost a few quid to 'fill up' and will do 100 miles to a charge. More than enough for what you need. Also, congestion charge exempt and free road tax as well.
  17. It's a bit boring though isn't it? Unless the result you're looking for is to annoy everyone.
  18. He certainly didn't get enough steer! I think either he froze (unlikely) or something quite essential broke at the wrong moment.
  19. I was horribly ill last week with a bout of manflu, got better for the weekend and feel even worse this week. Fucking rubbish if you ask me.
