I cut them flush then drilled the remainder out. I welded mine up then blended it all in, drilled an tapped a hole in the middle to take an aftermarket water temp sensor

Theres plenty of meat on it to take the heat as long as you can get it clean enough it will be fine as for the stainless water pipe you can have that tig welded to then polished if you braze it it will look crap
