Another ill thought out idea from 'The Powers That Be'.
firstly, i do not see why we are taking such a lead in enforcing carbon emissions and trying to lead the world in this. we only throw out a small percentage of said emissions. turning off streetlights is not gonna make much of a dent in the world emissions we are trying to save.
Before we start, maybe it would be idea to bring down the major players, Russia, China, USA, African and Arab States to a level playing field, make them suffer first and take on the majority of the cuts.
I know things have to be taken care of with regards to the future wellbeing of the planet and agree with that. but why is it always the UK that seems to want to lead the world, and then everyone gets hit with big bills.
the Governments' crazy idea to get people off the road, put fuel costs up, but that is not a fair way. the only people that will be kept of the road (for the most part) are the ones who can't afford to pay the hiked up prices. Same with most things these days, the poor and less well-off suffer.
Also, losing the streetlights will make it less safe for people going out at night, not just car drivers, but pedestrians. if you don't want to drive, or don't drive, public transport is next to useless for anyone not living in a town. wonder if they thought of people standing waiting for a bus or train, if they can't see around them what is going on.
I better not get started on Speed Cameras. it would not be bad if they caught idiots tailgating you or acting a complete moron on the road, but they never concentrate on the major reasons of road incidents/accidents, just someone a few miles over the limit.
