  1. The trouble is finding the resistor pack... I ended up using a resistor pack from a Nissan 280Z. It has the 6 wires and is the right resistance. Works well but I wouldn't mind getting the original stuff. Price ????
  2. Hey, DO you have a part number for the Resistor Pack ? I have been trying to track it down but without much success. Cheers Andrei
  3. Hey all, I was changing my plugs today and I had the guy who was helping me check the engine compression. Moderately warm engine. I was shocked by the results. 1 - 160 2 - 160 3 - 85 4 - 120 5 - 75 6 - 175 He was very surprised as well. The car is running strong. No smoke at idle and at full throttle. Occasional small puff of smoke on startup and when idling at the lights for a while and taking off (but only when engine warmed up and I thought most likely due to oil leaking from turbo seals). No excessive oil consumption. No excessive water consumption or overheating. Possibilities Piston ~ possible, but I would have though that it should smoke a lot more especially at idle Valve assembly ~ that is possible. After changing to the US inlet cam the valve clearances may not be that great. Also to note is that there isn't any significant blow-by as I have a catch can and I check it regularly. Oh. A few more things. Adding oil into the chamber didn't change the compression significantly which whould tell me that if the rings were that bad then I should be smoking like nothing else. The compression was repeatable. ? stuck valve ? Any ideas fellows. This is the last thing I wanted to happen. Cheers Andrei
  4. Yes it can be done. Check here http://home.attbi.com/~pwpanas/Cyratek/ValveStemReplacement.htm You don't have to remove the head to do it
  5. HI, Just wanted to post my opinion on this as I have a very similar problems as what was described. I don't get much or any smoke on startup unless I really plant it or the weather is cold (so most likely condensation). Recently I have noticed a grey/white cloud of smoke when I take off at the lights but only when the engine is warmed up. Doesn't seem to come on when driving (I had someone behind me watching) but I can smell some oil-smell when decelerating ~ even though there isn't smoke. I have checked the throttle body and it is sparkling clean. I have also checked the intercooler pipes (before the intercooler) and therei s a very faint trace of blackish deposit there but I wouldn't call them coated in oil. I have spoken to a few people and most suggest that it is probably the turbos (the have over 130,000km on them at up to 1.3 bar). What is happening is that on deceleration the vacum sucks some of the oil form the turbo seals ~ usually the 2nd. Also while at idle oil drips from the seals into the exhaust and comes out the pipe in a nice puff when you take off. I havn't got the death whine yet and the car generally feels strong. Oil and water consumption is undetectable (for the moment). Most likely the turbos being the culprits. CHeers Andrei
  6. My rather poor understanding of the TC on the Supras is it has 3 modes of operation (read this on the US Supra site). On. Off - (turned off in cabin with button on dash) Really off - unplug TRAC fuse from fuse box. Even when turned off in the cabin the traction control has a stupid-mode of operation where it will kick in if there are some really bad traction things going on. So to really disable it you need to unplug the fuse. Perhaps that is why guys in the US run without the TRAC at the drags. As I understand it though the US Supras have a different form of traction control anyway. So everything I have said may not qualify for the Jap Supras anyway.. Cheers Andrei
  7. I can verify that the UNICHIP is a piece of shYt. Had it on my car for 2 years to try to get the fueling under control and that worked ok on the 440cc injectors. But there were a few things the installer (and Australian distributor) didn't mention. It can't alter ignition timing on Supras (and most Toyotas for that matter) and it is VERY limited in its adjustment of fueling. Once I got the 550cc injectors installed we couldn't adjust the map any more because they had max out the settings already on the first tune (on the smaller injectors). Now I have pulled the Unichip off and am running AFC/ITC combo (very successfully) until I can find something else that will suit a auto TT. Maybe when the AEM is all bug free ... Andrei
  8. Spoke to Toyota here and the part number is a goer. Unfortunately they don't have them in stock (surprise) but they will get it from Japan. Thank for your help guys. (And I am NOT paying for a plane ticket CHeers Andrei
  9. Oh.. I have the UK/US brakes not the JAP thingies.
  10. Haya, Do you have a part number for the UK brake overhaul kit ? Anyone interested in selling some to us poor souls in Australia as TOyota here really has us by the nuts when it comes to Supra parts. THanks Andrei
  11. Hello all, I havn't seen any Supra in Melb with a oil catch can so I wasn't quite sure how to install my Greddy unit last weekend. I understand that it basically needs to sit between the crank-case ventilation port and air intake pipes before the turbos. Is that correct ? Looking at the picture of how the system works http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/emisson_control_system/ecs3.jpg I have hooked my unit up between the crank case port on the right side of the engine (driver's sider) and the intake port (which is acutally on the 1st turbo intake pipe). This is so the fumes get caught when the car is turbocharging. Any ideas if this is correct ? I guess I could have hooked it up to the PCV valve and intake manifold but looking at the diagram above this way does not flow when the car is turbocharging and I guess when most of the blow-by gas forms. Thanks Andrei
