  1. I'm quite interested, I have two concerns though. First if you look at the pics of top secret ones some people seem to have a big gap between the top of the diffuser and the bottom of the rear bumper - it looks like they've had to do that to clear the exhaust. Others look fine. Second, if you look at these pics from the thread on Supraforums of the front mounting under the car it looks like there's a big gap between the diffuser and the bottom of the car which would surely allow air in and make the thing act like a parachute. But that could just be the way the guy has installed it. So what I'd like is some decent pictures of it mounted on a car. Here's what I mean about the gap - here's one with a gap: ... and one with a much smaller gap:
  2. It uses spring seats, which are really just flat washers that sit in the recesses you mention.
  3. Well, mine are -12. You're right, the fittings are not cheap! I got the engine back in the car yesterday with the help of a couple of friends! Probably the most effort was pushing the car up my sloping drive to get the front of it into the garage and level. Once we (well ok, they ) had done that I put some moly grease on the gearbox input shaft and slipped on the clutch plate and disc. Then with the transmission jacked up as high as it would go we lifted the engine in with my crane and manouvered it into position. I then managed to get one of the transmission bolts in and tighten it up to bring the two together, with a fair bit of wiggling and manouvering! Then I removed the jack under the transmission and lowered the engine crane carefully so it dropped onto the engine mounts, not as much of a pain as I thought it might, although having no room either side of the car in my garage is a pain! Didn't take any photos, sorry...
  4. I've just switched my exhaust housing from a .68 to a .86, be interesting to see what difference it makes. I've made quite a few other changes too though, cams, +1mm valves and ported head, we'll see!
  5. It's a small filter stuck on in place of the standard breather. It's not a good idea - if oil comes out of there, which it could easily do in case of an engine failure of some sort it's directly by the red hot turbo and will catch fire.
  6. Just write and tell them. When I first got mine the VIN number was wrong on the V5 - 1 digit out. I just wrote and told them and they sent a new one, no proof or anything was needed.
  7. Nope. To get sky+ to work you need a sky sub unfortunately. Weird problem, how have you got it hooked up?
  8. Unfortunately you're going to have to fabricate something then. Probably your best bet is going to be to buy some pipe sections and rig something up.

  10. I've been playing musical engines in the garage today. As Chewie pointed out it's not the biggest, and I needed to get the new one off the engine stand and into a position where I can hoist it into the car which I'll have to move into the front of the garage so it's on a level. Since the front of the garage had my old engine sitting in the way I had to move that, then move the new one off the stand and rotate it 180 degrees, before finally moving the old one again somewhere out the way. Bit of a pain especially since I only have one set of engine hooks so had to keep transferring them between engines! Anyway, I finally have the engines in the right place and the front of the garage cleared ready. With the engine on the ground (on wooden blocks on bricks) I could pull the pilot bearing out. Since I'm a sucker for expensive tools I'll only use once I got hold of a blind bearing puller, which makes this a piece of cake. You just put the collet thing through the bearing, turn the handle to lock it in and then use the slide hammer to pop it out - takes less than a minute. Pic attached. Tap in a new bearing and job done. I then put the flywheel on. You basically tighten the bolts in several passes in the sequence shown on the pic to 49Nm. Then you mark each bolt with a line and tighten a further 90 degrees in sequence. You can see the marks I put on the bolts in the pic. I haven't cleaned up the flywheel yet which is why it looks a bit skanky.

  12. True, was going to suggest that. But you do have to sign up to the extra tenner a month sub for a year. If you have an HD TV it's definitely worth it, but if not it's pointless.
  13. What manifold do you have? Do you have a FMIC and if so what make? The different manifolds position the turbo in different places - if you have one from one of the kits, like a boostlogic, PHR etc then you may be able to get a pre-made pipe for common front mounts (i.e. Greddy). If you have an Ebay special then you won't. You can fabricate something yourself, several companies make pipe bend sections, 90 degree, 45 degree etc. You can buy several of those, cut to size and use silicon connectors between them. You could then go to someone who can make you up a pipe, or weld the sections you have together. As for the BOV, you will need a weld-on flange to suit whatever BOV you have. Then you'll need someone who can weld aluminium to weld it onto the pipe going from your intercooler to intake. The pressure take off for the boost controller comes from a fitting on the compressor cover normally - you have to drill and tap a hole and get a screw in hose barb. There are another two connections on the wastegate made via screw in hose barbs too normally.
  14. You can, but check the cost first, by the time you've bought a load of twin cable and connectors, an LNB and a sky+ box it might end up costing you more than sky's price. Once installed you phone up sky and pair your viewing card with your new box. As long as you subscribe to sky it's free to get the sky+ features, but it has to be registered at their end.
  15. No, he does get knocked out every now and then, normally on food and drink which seems to be his only slightly weaker subject. People don't often challenge him at science...
  16. You could do, but it will have worn a bit, and you'll take a bit more off by polishing it. Always better to measure it. That spreadsheet of mine also lets you just use the numbers and it will work out the sizes from that if you want.
  17. What you need is my spreadsheet for working out clearances. Basically the difference between the sizes of the Toyota ones are very small. A no. 2 standard bearing is 1.997mm-2.0mm and a no.3 is 2.0-2.003mm. So a 0.003mm difference, which is pretty tiny. The spreadsheet I did lets you put the measured sizes of the main journal bores and crank journal diameters in. It then calculates the correct standard and Power Enterprise bearing sizes, but you can override those and put the size range for the bearings you are looking at in and it will work out the oil clearance and tell you if it's in the stock tolerance range. Bear in mind though that I measured the size of my ACL bearings at a bit smaller than the stated size on their website. So my clearances were initially a bit on the large side. ACL do make different sizes, they make a +0.025mm set too. So I combined one half of a standard size bearing and one of a +0.025mm to get a bearing 0.0125mm bigger and reduce my clearances to bang in the middle of the range. Have a look at this thread, the spreadsheet is in there somewhere along with some other info. EDIT: Post 55 on page 4 has the spreadsheet, post 91 has the measurements I took. Post 105 is where I mixed the bearings and installed them.

  19. I know! Mind you it's filling up with shelves and tools now. There's no way you could actually park the Supra in there and get out.
  20. Maybe not . Thanks guys, it was actually a lot closer than it looked too - we actually answered 7 sudden death questions before they finally beat us, but they cut that out. In fact Jeremy ran out of questions at one point and had to go get some more! We were a bitt annoyed about the roadrunner question to start with, but it was filmed back in July remember, and that had only just taken the record a few weeks before. I think Blue gene is the no.4 fastest machine now. So we weren't too annoyed - pretty much everyone we asked at work afterwards got it wrong too.
  21. Yes it is. At least the intake and out sizes are that, I'd have to check the A/R when I'm at home.
  22. That's on the 20th June isn't it? May be, that's the weekend after Le Mans so it'd better be finished by then!
  23. So I'm pretty much finished, everything else is going to get done with the engine back in the car. Just need to get it off the stand, change the pilot bearing and get it back in! Actually I'm not sure of the best way of supporting it off the stand before it goes in, don't really want to rest all that weight on the sump. I guess I need to bodge something to support it by the engine mounts.
