That could be just the thing Chris. I may well give you a ring. Toyota phoned me up this morning, you're going to love this! They said they'd had a look and it was the clutch. Wow, amazing diagnostics there! Then came the classic "of course as it's a Supra that will be an engine out job...". WTF? When I pointed out that in fact it was just a case of dropping the gearbox they said "errrr, well the service manager reckons its 12 hours labour". 12 hours FFS! I could do it in less time than that myself on the drive! And to top it all they charge a frankly ludicrous £75 an hour labour. So it's definitely getting recovered back to Triton!

I have a DXD kevlar at the mo. I like it a lot, it's very similar to stock, just a bit shorter bite point. To be fair, I'm not sure what has broken yet. It could be the flywheel, disc, plate, or something else. I just know it's buggered and is likely to be expensive!
-
Well, since my clutch totally lunched itself today (at least I hope it's just the clutch), I may well need a new one in a hurry. I need to wait for them to have a look and see what's broken, but I'm probably going to need at least a clutch disc. So, I'm looking for a clutch disc, unsprung, preferably a HPF or South Bend but it needs to be in stock as I will need it in a hurry, so anything else considered. I may also need a pressure plate too, preferably a South Bend. Don't really want a RPS max as that's a bit too stiff, but may be forced to if that's all that's available. So traders, what have you got in stock and at what price? Cheers.
-
I think the Max pressure plate is a bit stiff for me. Plus I don't know exactly what has broken yet. I've got an RPS flywheel and South Bend clutch on at the moment. Think I'll go back to a stock flywheel even if the RPS one is OK since they'll have to pull the gearbox I expect. I might need a new clutch in a hurry if it's knackered as I suspect. Normally I'd just order another South Bend from the states, it's a nice clutch, but I'll probably have to go for whatever I can get quickly.

Was on my way to drop a parcel off at the couriers this lunchtime when something suddenly failed in catestrophic fashion! Put my foot on the clutch as I was approaching a roundabout when the bottom of the clutch pedal travel suddenly went light and a horrible grinding noise ensued! Couldn't get a gear, finally managed to clunk into first and let the clutch up which resulted in more grinding. I managed to limp round the roundabout and into a garage just opposite. Seems to be when the clutch is slipped that's causing severe problems, still appear to have drive in first at least so hopefully it's just something fallen to bits in the clutch and not the gearbox itself. I had to abandon the car at the garage - they're going to have a look later this week when they get time. The worst part is, the garage in question is the Toyota main dealer! Noooooo! It'll have to stay there, can't really transport it anywhere as it would need a low loader and I dunno how they would get it on as there's nowhere to attach a tow rope without destroying the front bumper and you certainly couldn't drive it on. Plus it'd cost a mint. So bit of a bastard all round really, especially as I managed to scrape the passenger side on someone's wing mirror on the way over there too, so there's a nice black plastic line up the side. Should come off though. At least if I had the bloody car to get it off of!

Miami GT are the guys you need to speak to about these, have a look in their section.

F1 - Buttons OUT of the F1 BMW William contract
SimonB replied to SupraStar 3000's topic in Supra Chat
Not any more, they split up ages ago. The reason he's paying out of his own pocket is that it has to be him that pays the contract off, it's a European law thing, BAR are not allowed to. However, they will pay him extra to compensate, so it's the same thing as BAR paying it direct really. And yes, apparently BARs title sponsor asked how fast the car would go theoritically and they said 248mph, so they asked them to go and do it! It will have to maintain that speed for two miles in either direction. All in F1 magazine this month... -
It was indeed me! Woohoo, spotted! Oh, and cheers!

Errr, yeah right!

Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide a reasonably low current for a long time, for running ICE for example, rather than proving a very large current draw for a short time (like turning the starter motor). There's no point in having one unless you're planning on running the stereo for ages without the engine running at shows etc. Just buy a calcium one from Halfords, 50 quid or so. Can't see the point in paying hundreds of quid for a battery, the Halfords one has much higher than standard cold cranking and capacity anyway.

It will probably be the linkage between the shifter and the gearbox that's a bit loose. There's a bolt that holds a U shaped braket on the gearbox end to the bottom of the shifter, the whole things covered by a rubber boot. Or it could be the reverse lock out screw that needs adjusting, which controls how far over the shift lever goes over before you lift the collar. Also check that the hole the shifter goes through has been filed out from a rectangular slot to a round hole or the shorter shift lever may be binding on it. EDIT: Here's the instructions for the B&M short shift, should be able to see what I mean... http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/75.pdf

If you're getting rid of the jack I'll have that off you as mine is knackered.

Saw this on the news the other day and was wondering if you'd be affected Jake. Happened to me a few years back - it's depressing even if you get a good payout and another job sorted. Mind you, it did pay for my Supra... . Hope it works out for you mate.

You can do it without removing the airbox or battery, I didn't bother the other week. Helps to have a wobble bar though (short extension that goes on your socket wrench and lets you angle it.

Have a look at http://www.mohdparts.com, plenty of info there from a US site, that's where I got mine from.

They're all the same, they all come from Japan anyway.

You'd better hope she doesn't decide to have a look at this site to see what all this Supra stuff you keep talking about is...

Haven't you lot ever heard of a video recorder? Or even better Sky+. I'm gonna watch it later. Just nobody talk the result at the pub...

What's one of those then? Sounds like a good feature, an active bonnet vent! The whole UK vs Jspec thing always runs and runs. For me for example the facelift pre-VVTi RZ is the best variant. You get Recaros, better suspension, uprated ABS, a better dash, better looking front and rear lights, no ugly side indicator repeaters in the wing and a newer car with lower milage than you can get on a UK spec. Oh, and big brakes and wheels as standard. Others like the bonnet vent and heated seats on the UK. Bottom line is treat each car individually.

I've seen that one too, in Penn Hill. I was on foot at the time though!

Don't think you can use the Bruntingthorpe ones Dale, I was gonna post up some of mine but it says "All images taken by SD Imaging are copyrighted to SD Imaging and not to be used for commercial use without prior permission" on the CD case. You could ask them I suppose?

Washed the car, then been driving up and down the coast road by Chesil beach. Glorious sunshine, fabulous road, amazing views, perfect! Gotta be my favourite road. See the calendar thread for pics! Did the family thing, picnic in the new forest with my nephews and brother & sister in law yesterday, and spent Friday night and Sat in the very good company of a very nice young lady of my aquaintance. Can't get much better a weekend really!

The ones coming back from Le Mans I posted seem to have disappeared, so here they are again. They need a bit of photoshopping. Originals are 8megapixel again. http://www.simonb.org/images/DSC_4982small.jpg http://www.simonb.org/images/DSC_4983small.jpg http://www.simonb.org/images/DSC_4985small.jpg
