Don't get me wrong, it is of course a mighty impressive achievement. The gearbox is apparently incredible. But the F1 was designed to be the ultimate car regardless of cost. That was the only design criteria. The Bugatti had to have 1000BHP, and had to go 250mph, and had to have a fancy double clutch sequential gearbox etc. It was designed as a marketing exercise to beat the F1s stats, not because that was the best way of doing things. I mean, what's the point of having to turn the engine off and activate a special mode that sacrificies all its handling to get top speed? Only to beat a record, not to produce a better car.
I just wish they'd started with a blank bit of paper and thought "right, lets build the best car possible with today's technology". Then it would be truly amazing.
I would expect an F1 to murder it round a track btw, it's far too heavy.
