  1. Really, lol! ? No great secret about it - the only reason it was under a cover was to keep dirt out as there were no cam covers on it. They're doing a great job as usual though, for example we had to re-use the belt tensioner off my old engine as the one on the new one was for an auto. They could have just stuck it on, but the guy cleaned it up and painted it so it wouldn't look cack on the new engine. Little things like that.

    Fuel Gauge

    It doesn't actually, it's done by the circuit board by the fuel gauge. Only reason it's independant of the needle position is that the needle can be stuck on anywhere on the metal pin - it's not independant of that.
  4. My car is in there at the moment having the engine swapped. It won't be run in or remapped by 28th though.
  5. It's easy enough to check, you don't need ramps, just jack the back up and take out the refill plug (the one on the side). Oil should trickle out - if not you should be able to feel with your finger if the level is ok. I have a small plastic hand pump that I used to refill mine so you just stick the hose in the refill hole and pump new oil in until it trickles out.
  6. Right, here we go, a couple more pics of the new engine. I went over today and test fitted the new turbo (PT67DBB) because as I said I thought it might foul the manifold but it fits fine, so that's going on now as well. May as well since I'll have to keep it off boost while running in anyway and then it'll be going up to Owens for remapping. It looks HUGE too Pretty much everything has been transferred over from the old engine now.
  7. DBA specifically say that their drilled disks are not for track use - the reason being they crack. The grooved and plain ones they state as being for street or motorsport/racing.
  8. Yes I do, and no I haven't. The DVLA doesn't actually say they are illegal, just that they aren't aware of any that meet the correct standards for reflectivity etc. It's one of those things that in theory they could get you for but never actually would in practise. Provided they are the right size and spacing etc of course.
  9. The UK spec has a different flange and it's a different angle and position too. You're better off getting a Jspec downpipe.
  10. Bits are currently being swapped over from my old engine to my shiny brand new built engine courtesy of Martin. It looks superb, I'll probably pop over there tomorrow and take some photos - I'm going to try the new turbo on for size as I have a feeling it may not fit at the moment. The compressor cover has a 3inch exit instead of 2.5 and I think it may well foul the manifold, in which case I'll have to get hold of another one.
  11. Time for a quick update, this is my car at the moment, can't help thinking there's something missing...
  12. 1.3BAR is pretty marginal on standard injectors. To run that you really want bigger injectors (better) or to increase fuel pressure a bit with an adjustable regulator (not so good). Either of those would need a piggyback fuel controller like an Emanage to control. Plus personally I would want to run an uprated SMIC or a FMIC.
  13. Yep, that's the idea. Fueling permitting of course.
  14. Other way round. A boost controller can only RAISE boost, not lower it. That's why people have restrictor rings, to stop runaway boost. It's not a good idea to raise the boost too much with the 1st cat in as it's pretty restrictive.
  15. Your second to last pic shows the 1st cat - you can see the cat temperature sensor and the wire going to it. The actual cat is behind the heat shield.
  16. With the correct fueling and cooling etc you can run 1.3BAR (although it will probably reduce their life a fair bit). There's no point running any more than that as you are so far out of the efficiency range you will probably lose power rather than gain any.
  17. There's no problem using the stock airbox with a FMIC. The piping uses the same basic path as the stock SMIC piping - they both go through the wing.
  18. The Innovate is a better bet IMHO. More flexible, and mine has been more reliable than the AEM I had before.
  19. It ought to be the bottom hose really, as that's after the rad, so the fan will activate if the rad is not cooling enough.

  21. Not sure where that came from, even AAP only claim 3350 to 3400 CFM against 3300 CFM for the stock one. You're not going to make things any cooler or get any extra power by fitting an electric fan. In fact by having it on all the time you're losing power - you should have it wired through a thermostat so it only runs when needed, you can get them for 30 quid or so. Otherwise you'll have the fans running even when you've got plenty of airflow through the rad at speed. It will free up loads of space and look nice though, which is why I'm about to fit one I think.
  22. Oh right, hadn't seen that one before. Not sure if it's a good idea having two things hanging off a single output - there's probably no real way of telling if it'll work without trying it. I presume your data logger hasn't got a serial input?
  23. That's it, I'm offended now... They're definitely a marmite thing, I quite liked them, others hated them! The ones we put on last year were much stickier than the year before - they were a right bastard to get off and took a bit of paint with them on the front bumper.
  24. If you buy the Innovate gauge this connects via the serial interface on the LC-1, leaving the other analogue out to do what you want with.
