  1. It could be a dodgy connection to something like a fuel cut remover or RLTC. Or a dodgy coil-pack connector.
  2. He he, I'm on page 4! Guess that really does make me an old timer. Especially since half the people before me have long since gone.

    Which cooler?

Nah, this was back when I was BPU+. It got to around 128C IIRC before I came in. I had the oil temp sensor in the oil filter union at the time. It was a very hot day though I think.

    Which cooler?

Well, you should be able to get away with putting a PAS cooler where the stock one is, in front of the rad. A small Mocal cooler should do the trick. I've yet to see a Supra driven on track that HASN'T overflowed the PAS reservoir due to overheating, so definitely a good move that. But that leaves the nearside for an oil / ATF cooler. I don't have an auto, so can't comment on how much that overheats, but my oil temps were very high my last track session before I fitted a cooler - so much so that I had to come in earlier than I would otherwise and let it cool. It also heats up your engine coolant trying to shed the extra heat. So I'd get an oil cooler if you are going to be doing more track days - I have a smallish Mocal cooler. Dunno about ATF as I said, I think I'd do both. It gets expensive in plumbing and fittings, that's the only thing.
  5. I actually read most of the transcript - it's on the FIA website (hey, I was bored ). There's no doubt there was not enough evidence to show they had used any Ferrari info obtained illegally. It would never have stood up in a criminal court. The FIA in fact never said they had found evidence of using it - they just said they were minded to give a penalty. The "extra" new evidence was just the fact that Stepney had sent Coughlan a load of text messages - they didn't have the contents so they could be about anything. Plus the drivers emails, which didn't really prove anything apart from the fact that De la Rosa was asking Coughlan for some info about Ferrrari - most of it was the sort of thing you might expect the guy to know anyway from analysing video etc. It only mentions Stepney once and since he was an old friend of Coughlan it doesn't seem that odd they would gossip about things - I'm sure that's what De la Rosa thought. Very harsh indeed, the whole thing to me looked like Max flexing his muscles and rubbing Ron's nose in it as much as possible. Especially given his comments afterwards.
  6. Here's a pic of Arnout's manifold and pipework that plumbs the wastegate back into the downpipe. His pipe connects up to a standard 1st decat pipe (a UK one though) - if I was to make my own I would probably combine it with the 1st decat pipe and plumb it in further down.
  7. Anyone got pics of this exhaust on a Supra? I've seen a vid clip of it on Nic's car but you can't really see anything. It's currently near the top of my list for a new quiet exhaust, along with the Tanabe touring medallion but I've a feeling that might be a bit restrictive. Would be interested in anyone's experience / reviews of it, especially on a single...
  8. Simple, it's a lot easier to arrange than plumbing it back into the exhaust, which makes it cheaper, which is why all the turbo kits come that way.
  9. Ah, the good old stripe fest of Le Mans 2005/6... It was a right PITA in 2006 as we put them on on the hottest day of the year and they stretched. Getting them off was a nightmare that year too so we decided we couldn't be arsed this year and went for flames instead. We did think about union jack flames but it was going to be too expensive.
  10. It was always going to go that way, it's well known that Max Mosely loathes Ron Dennis and the FIA basically do what he says for various political reasons. I'd like to know how exactly McLaren are supposed to have benefitted this year from the info seeing as their car was already designed at the point it was received though! You could make a case for next year's car perhaps but not this year. Also, why were Ferrari not penalised for allowing Stepney to give them it? Come to think of it, why were Toyota not penalised when a Ferrari employee gave them a load of info a few years back? It will be interesting to see the emails that were sent.
  11. We should have a contest. Winner wins a sawn off bit of broomstick. If you were to fit the main or big end bearings incorrectly, or with the wrong clearances, or not take enough care with cleaning everything and working in an immaculately clean environment when building the engine you could easily end up with a knackered crank.
  12. Does anyone know the thread size off hand for the bolts that mount the transmission bellhousing to the back of the engine? I need to get some suitable length bolts to stick my old engine on an engine stand when I've been and collected it.
  13. Caparo as in bonkers stupidly fast track day special Caparo T1? Looks interesting, I may well be in touch at some point! Who do you use for machining work Chris?
  14. I'm thinking of rebuilding my old spare engine myself, should keep me occupied in the evenings... Anyway, if I do I'll need somewhere to do the machine work - acid cleaning, boring, honing, that kind of thing. Maybe porting/polishing etc the head too. So I'm after recomendations for machine shops to do it - there's a few threads about but I've yet to see one that actually names names!
  15. I've got a Hotpoint one, works pretty well although it does take ages. I only use it in emergencies when I've forgotten to wash something I need to wear anyway. You can hear the pump run to get rid of the water down the wastepipe when the dryer is working.
  16. Just don't rev it up or anything stupid in the car park and you'll be fine.
  17. You just know that if asked to post one picture it's not going to be long before people start posting more and more... Ah well, here's my (single) pic... http://www.simonb.org/images/IMG_0193small.jpg
  18. When it's just a nut which is going to be very cheap it's easier just getting it from Toyota.
  19. There isn't one as such. There is a fuel pump ECU which is in the boot in the left hand wheel arch area. The power gets to that via the main EFI relay, which also switches the fuel injectors, ignitors etc. That one is in the main fuse box.
  20. Say £60 + p&p if I have to post it.
  21. Couple more pics of the shroud - bit grubby as I haven't cleaned it yet!
  22. I got some from Demon Tweeks along with the wrap. It's called hi heat coating or something like that. They sell the metal zip ties too.
  23. Not a good idea soaking it, you can end up locking moisture in which can corrode the pipe it's wrapped round. Worth getting some of the spray stuff to seal it too - you just spray it on like paint after wrapping.
