  1. Yeah, it comes with three or four surrounds and mounting thingies. It's actually officially a CD storage thing, stores 3 CDs but when I put some in there they kept flying out when I accelerated hard
  2. The Halfords one is part no FP-006-H and is labelled Volvo V/S 40/70 Facia/Pocket (just happen to have the box lying by the computer !). If you can get over the embarrasment of buying a Volvo part they're about 15 quid I think. It's got a list on the instructions with some very bizarre sounding cars on. Mazda Millenja anyone ? What about the Toyota Cressida ?
  3. Just in case anyone is interested, I tested it out and the radiator fan does work OK with this wiring, so if anyone else wants to wire one in, these are the wires to use...
  4. Hmmmm... Looks like Toyota might have done a sneaky one and moved the heater/fan/radiator fan etc to the ACC circuit rather than the IGN2 which is shown on the MKIV.com website. Tested the timer out this evening and it didn't keep the heater running. Don't know about the radiator fan though because the engine wasn't hot enough for it to be running. I'll have to test it out properly to make sure. Here's a piccy though... http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/TT.jpg
  5. Right, done it. The colours I posted earlier are correct. I saw the wiring diagram on MKIV.com, so I knew how it was wired up, but not which colour was what. Anyway, here's the differences: function pre-facelift colour facelift colour ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +12V White White +12V no. 2 White+Red White+Red ACC Pink+Blue Green IGN1 Black + Yellow Black +Yellow IGN2 Black + Orange Black + White STARTER Black + White Black + Red So, the timer should be wired to white (+12v), black + yellow (IGN1) and black + white (IGN2). It has to be wired to IGN1 and IGN2 (not ACC) otherwise it will run the engine on but not the radiator fan, which could be bad Just cut a bit of insulation off each cable with a knife, tin it and then wrap the timer wire round and solder it on. I chopped the plug off the timer wire and soldered some extension wires on because I mounted the timer under the stereo in one of those Halfords cubby-hole things. Mine is the one with a boost gauge built in. Still haven't quite plumbed the tube in yet though. I'll post some pics later...
  6. I'm fitting my turbo timer, so I took my dash apart to have a look at the ignition wiring today. I've got a facelift car, which naturally has a completely different plug and wiring for the ignition switch than the older cars, so I'm going to have to wire it in without the aid of a loom. Anyway, after poking around with a multimeter for ages this is what I think the wires are: *White - +12v no 1 *Green - ACC *Black+Yellow - IG1 *Black + Red - starter White + Red - +12v no.2 Black + White - IG2 The ones with a * are heavier gauge wire than the others. Does anyone know if this is correct ? I'm not too sure about the starter wire, because I would have expected it to be connected to the +12V when you turn the key to start but it didn't seem to be. My alarm seems to be teed into this wire though, and it's heavier gauge, so it must be the starter right ? Don't want to get it wrong and find the timer trying to fire the starter motor instead of keeping the engine running...
  7. I wish my stock boost gauge worked like that. Mine goes off the top of the scale with just the first turbo online. Tried it last night, at 2000rpm in third, floor the accelerator and it zips straight up to maximum and stays there. You can't see any difference when #2 turbo comes in (you can feel it though...)
  8. I just had a quote from a Toyota bodyshop that included one of these after a slight *ahem* excursion at Castle Combe a few weeks ago in the wet . It's £103.32 + VAT on my quote for a "Bellyshield".
  9. I used to have a bog standard convertor which meant the PAS was wrong so I bought one of Pete's units to restore it and still delimit the car. The steering with the correct amount of assistance is SO much better than before. Quite amazing difference really. Anyway, for interest I have a facelift 97 import and I don't have a separate odo and speedo. The odo is an old fashioned job in the middle of the speedo. There's just one wire carrying the speed signal in to the combined unit. I should have taken a photo and written down which wire it was I suppose. So if you've got a facelift car then Pete's instructions won't be quite right...
  10. I want to fit a Blitz turbo timer, because I'm fed up of sitting there guessing how long to run the engine for to cool the turbos. This is the one that has a boost gauge that it uses to set the time automatically. So, since I have a facelift J spec which has a boost gauge (more of a boost indicator really ) does anyone know if you can use the plumbing to this rather than start poking hoses through the firewall to the engine ? Or is this standard gauge an electronic jobby ? If I have to run a hose through, where's the best place to do it ? There doesn't seem to be any nice easy grommits to poke through.
