I'll be going, but I go in a group with a few other guys in our own little convoy! Houx annexe has allocated pitches with electricity etc - don't know how that would work if you're in a group because you probably couldn't all camp together. Maison Blanche is also good and near the Porsche curves which are a great place to watch the race from. The best thing to do is get someone to turn up early (i.e. on Thursday latest) and grab a big pitch for everyone else. Then you need your Le Mans essentials - pocket radio, suncream and beer cooling technology! Paddling pool full of water works acceptably, just try not to let anyone decide they need to cool down in it...

I've seen this asked on other threads a couple of times with no answer, but has anyone thought of / managed to use 2 SMICs, one in the stock location and the other on the passenger side ? There doesn't seem to be much down there. Possible, or not ? Just curious really, it'd be good to have more intercooling while still looking stock and not having to block the rad etc with a FMIC. If someone could do a kit it'd probably be cheaper than a FMIC too, and easier ? Chris ?

Plugs - Denso IK24s are the ones. Gearbox - yep, must be V160, you need two litres (it comes in 1 litre cans). Engine oil - A lot of people use Valvoline 5w50. You need just over 5 litres if i remember correctly. Filter - general consensus seems to be yes. You can get Blitz and TRD replacement panel filters. I've got a Blitz one I bought from Justin at TorqueIC. Bolts - these are the front suspension sub-frame mounting bolts. See here from mkiv.com. That page also has the diff oil specs, basically API GL-5 SAE90. You don't need special LSD oil - I think pretty much any brand will do.

Arrrggghhh!! The saga of my attempts to do this continues! I set off for the gumball thingy this morning and when I stopped there was oil smoke ! Turned back and had a look, I'm thinking the hoses are lose or something. Then I went inside and found the rubber gasket that is supposed to go between the centre hose and the adaptor sat on my table. Doh! Spent the afternoon taking the bloody thing off again to put it on. If I ever see another oil filter it'll be too soon! Anyway, sorted now, and here is a pic of where I relocated it to. It wouldn't actually fit as per the instructions, there's a pipe in the way, so I had to bolt the adaptor to the bracket they give you with one bolt rather than two to move it up a bit. There's a bolt on the gearbox that has a ground wire attached, that's what I undid to mount the bracket. Real bugger to get a wrench onto though.

Sorry guys, couldn't make it. I actualy set off, but then noticed I was leaking oil, so I turned back and spent the day taking my bloody oil filter reloator off again as I'd forgotten to put one of the gaskets on ! Doh!

Cool, I really must learn to park the same way round as everyone else though... See you tomorrow!

Well, I ended up putting it under the car as per the instructions anyway, because the hoses wouldn't reach, and it looked a bit dodgy anyway. Had to modify the bracket too, and the bolt it's attached to is a total bugger to get to! Bit of a nightmare job really. The hoses are kind of "fake" braided, they're rubber with a braided sheath. They attach via circular hose clamps, not ideal but I don't think they're going anywhere, they're done up bloody tight! The advantages for me are that I can now change the filter without having to take the battery out and reach in that way or pur the car on ramps (which I don't have), and also the adapter thingy has holes for attaching sensors, so I now have oil temp and pressure sensors.
-
Ok mechanical gurus, here one for you. I've got a Greddy oil filter relocation kit I am putting on. The suggested place to relocate the filter to in the instructions is under the car by the gearbox, but still a bit of a pain to get to without a ramp. So I found the location shown in the pic. It's a fair bit higher up than standard though, so the question is does that matter ? Is is going to effect the oil supply or will it be OK? And yes, the bonnet does close before anyone asks!

Ah, the connoisseur's choice! Just make sure it's not too clean or you'll show me up...

Definitely worth checking, because I did exactly the same thing when I installed mine a while ago!

Yep, sunlight sensor for the air conditioning. You should find a couple of threads about it somewhere...

Just a thought, is it possible to have 2 SMICs, with the other one on the passenger side ? Dunno how much room there is down there, but I don't remember there being much there (apart from the coolant expansion tank maybe). I guess there must be a reason why nobody does this ?

It's a little black plastic thing, looks like a 9 pin serial plug (which it is!) without a wire coming out.

That's because they bought it from someone else! I used Autoroute 2003 for a 3000 mile trip round Europe this summer, and it was pretty good on the whole. Sometimes the search for a roadname doesn't work properly though - spent bloody ages trying to find our hotel in Modena because it couldn't find the street, then when we finally found it and clicked on the road on the map it came up with the right name and everything. Mappoint is better though because you can get add ons for it for better GPS etc, but it's expensive.
-
Yep, two litres is all you need (just).
-
I think 2 is only on some Supras (mine doesn't), and some also beep when you open the door with the lights on. Can't think of anything else that might beep though. Aftermarket alarm or something?
-
Having looked at you piccy, your sensor looks a bit chunky. Not sure if it would fit using the Greddy thing - there's not all that much room around the hole. See attached pic.
-
You could buy a Greddy oil filter relocation kit, which consists of an adaptor that screws in where the oil filter currently is connected to a couple of pipes to another adaptor which you screw the filter into and bolt somewhere more convenient (like anywhere!). Both adaptors have 2 threaded holes for putting sensors in (one also has a larger threaded hole), which you blank off with a supplied bolt if you don't use. Then not only will you have an easy way of fitting your sensor, but you might actually be able to change the filter without taking half the car to bits or having four foot long bendy arms. I just bought one, and am putting oil pressure and temp sensors in. Haven't fitted it yet though. I think the Lexus jobby is the same idea, it screws between the oil filter and block and has threaded holes in for sensors (AFAIK).

Hey, I'll second that. I've used them and they're good (and cheap too). The guy that runs it is an ex rally driver.

Oh right, yeah, I knew that all the time see. I changed mine a while ago. You need to jack the front passenger side up onto an axle stand so you can crawl underneath. On the gearbox there is a drain plug underneath and a fill plug on the passenger side. You'll need a ring spanner with a decent offset to get at the fill plug. Make sure you undo the fill one first, that way if you can't get the drain one off for any reason you're not totally buggered. Then undo the drain plug and be prepared for oil to go absolutely everywhere! Then you just bung the drain one back in and stick the pipe from your pump thingy in the fill and fill it up until it overflows. It takes just short of two litres. The fill plug on mine was done up bloody tight. I ended up jacking the end of the spanner up (from a safe distance) !

You're only going to get a boost increase no a Jspec car by taking the cats out. The UKs wastegate can cope with the less restrictive system AFAIK. You're going to need a boost controller of some description. Still should get some benefit though. As for sound, I take it you've taken the baffle out :flame Dev

Just noticed you've got an NA, and all that I just said applies to the V160 6 speed box. Dunno anything about the 5sp, sorry!

I think the schedule is change every 36,000 miles. As you say though you're only supposed to use Toyota V160 gearbox oil. Maybe the Shell stuff is OK, but I'd want to change it as soon as possible just in case. You'll need two tins of the oil, can't find the part number now, but it's pretty expensive! It's not too bad to change yourself, as long as you get some kind of pump to pump the new oil in. Otherwise you'd have to rig something up with hoses and funnels and stuff. I bought a crappy little pump from my local motorists shop for a tenner.
