  1. No, torque is the only thing that determines acceleration (along with mass of course). Acceleration = force/mass, where here the force is the toque at the wheels. If you build an engine that revs twice as high say, so produces loads of power but the same torque (like an F1 engine say), that allows you to use a lower gear ratio, so more torque gets to the wheels. People say that power determines your top speed, what they really mean is that torque and gear ratio determines top speed. Have a look at this for an explanation of torque, power, work etc. Nothing to do with when to change gear really though, so sorry for the !
  2. Here you go, I was actually sad enough to look this up in a thread ages ago:- Basically, torque is the force that turns the wheels. The more toque there is, the faster the wheels and hence the car will accelerate.
  3. The worst crash in motor racing history, at Le Mans in 1955, 79 people were killed. Basically two cars hit and the Merc hit the bank and disintegrated, the entire engine flew out and straight into the crowd, decapitating everyone in the front row. The body was made of an aluminium alloy that caught fire in the petrol fire IIRC, but most of the damage was done by the debris. Racing is still banned in Switzerland following that.
  4. Here's a pic of mine if that helps, you can't see much though! The sensor hose is the thicker one at the top (thin one is a boost guage). I mounted the sensor itself round by the charcoal cannister, on the wing right in the corner, there's a bolt there that it will attach to (just about). The boost control valve is a bit harder to find somewhere to attach it to - found a spare bolt hole right down under the airbox in the end.
  5. There's a hose that goes from the top of the actuator to the turbo which you remove. One hose from the control valve goes to where each end of this hose used to be (i.e. one goes to the top of the actuator, the other to the turbo). The one that goes to the top of the actuator should connect up to the COM port, the other one that goes to the turbo should connect to the NO port. HTH EDIT: It makes more sense when you look at it under the bonnet.
  6. The difference between the single and dual port actuator setups is that with the dual port there is an extra thing to cap off, the other port on the actuator. I used the Blitz instructions that leet posted, just make sure you take off the plastic caps from all three ports on the Greddy solenoid (including the one you don't use) and make sure you connect the right hose up to the right port and you should be fine.
  7. *must resist smutty comment, must resist.... * We did think about nicking one of your sausages though, after all, the menu didn't say how many you were supposed to get. I'll sleep very well tonight, due to all that lovely steak filling my stomach, mmmmm.
  8. I've got an oil temp and pressure guage and it's suprising how often I look at the oil temp to see if it's warmed up yet or check it's not overheating when you've been giving it some. Don't pay much attention to the oil pressure though, not very useful that one IMHO.
  9. Don't see as it makes any difference, just replace the photo in the poll with the new one as far as I'm concerned and put a note on it. It's not like it's a main piccy. It will probably get less votes than the old one would as I think most people would prefer the calendar to be free of the traders trying to promote themselves, I think we get enough of that on the BBS anyway.
  10. See, yet another advantage of the manual gearbox . I need to find me a nice deserted carpark round here with no CCTV...
  11. Hey, look what I found on the menu, sounds like just the thing for you guys:-
  12. Well for me, second turbo and 1st gear = much spinning of wheels, smoke and screeching noises!
  13. You could try an impact screwdriver, otherwise you'll have to drill it out. It's like a big metal screwdriver that you hit with a hammer that makes it rotate a bit, Halfords sell them amongst other places.
  14. Well, apart from the fact that the New Forest meet is on Sunday that is, so therefore has nothing to do with going to G&B, doh!
  15. Me too, I'm going to pop over after the New Forest meet in the afternoon...
  16. I had a nightmare changing my fuel filter, but mainly due to the weather! I'd just levered myself under the car and undone the old one when it started absolutely pissing it down. Unfortunately there was a dip in the road just under the filter area, which rapidly turned into a big freezing cold puddle with me in it! I was in such a hurry to put the new one on before hypothermia set in I managed to strip the thread on it and had to put the bloody old one back on and buy a new one. I was not amused. So be careful with it and make sure you have a flare nut spanner.
  17. Right, that's my votes cast! Having looked at all the pictures again I'm really excited by the whole thing, reckon this calendar is going to be seriously cool! There's some top notch pics in there. Well done Rosie for sorting it all out too, must have taken you a fair old while...
  18. But only on a UK spec or VVTi with a MAF sensor. Sounds like plugs to me.
  19. That was the White Buck in Burley. It gets pretty busy Sunday lunchtimes though I think. Very good food but quite expensive IIRC. Here we are ...
  20. That was exactly my thinking! If you like gadgets then the E01 is great, especially if you have an Emanage. It means you can log stuff without having to rig up a laptop specially. You can also plug one Greddy 60mm gauge into it and log that too - I have a Greddy EGT gauge so I can log my EGTs along with everything else. At least I could if I'd actually got round to getting the bloody sensor plumbed in yet. If you get the external signal harness you can also wire up 2 analogue and 2 pulsed signals too. I'm going to use this for a wideband O2 sensor. I don't really know how it compares to the others in terms of holding boost etc, but it works very well for me.
  21. I forgot about these ones I took last year on my trip round Europe. You'd have to edit out the Pistonheads sticker (it was from a convoy down to Le Mans). Shame all the decent pics I have of my car are when it was stock looking! http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/EuropeanTour/images/FranceToSpain1.jpg http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/EuropeanTour/images/SupraMoyenneCorniche.jpg http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/EuropeanTour/images/SplugenPass3.jpg http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/EuropeanTour/images/SplugenPass5.jpg http://www.simons-house.freeserve.co.uk/EuropeanTour/images/SplugenPass7.jpg
  22. Oops, forgot about this! I've paid up now too These people I have not received payment from yet: Leett Supra-Power Mcanny Martin R IanR 250 Horses Matt Harwood MRT
  23. Wow, you mean they actually have elephant brothels? That'd be something to see...
  24. Have a look in the 'Files' section of the general Emanage group on Yahoo groups mate. The link is on the first page. You'll have to sign up to the group to get access. Lots of good stuff in there...
