removing entire dash... hit a problem, please help
richard cash replied to richard cash's topic in mkiv Technical
ive removed the panels, clocks/dials. Climate control etc, steering wheel, handbrake and the harness from both sides of the dash by the footwells. The dash is completly loose. It can move a good 3 or 4 inches side to side and upwards and forwards. But i cant get it over the stalks or gearstick. -
When i turn the ignition on should i be able to hear the fuel pump on? I have dissasembled my dash ready to take the whole lot out. I have now realised i need to turn the car around so i turned on the ignition but i cant hear the pump. I have plugged the dash harness back in on both sides but havent bothered plugging in the clocks etc. The engine cranks when i turn the key but it doesnt fire at all. Anyone able to help?? rich

Im trying to remove the entire dash ready for a retrim however after getting all the bolts out the way and completly loose i cant lift it over the steering column. The indicator stalks are in the way as well as the steering wheel tilt slalk. Also the gear lever seems to be hitting the botom part of the dash. How the hell do i take it out??

unfortunatly i have mislayed my card reader to allow photos from my phone onto my PC. I need one by the weekend so if its not turned up ill buy one and then i can upload some pics but to let you all know, the shape on both sides is there now. The passenger side is complete upto final coat of filler. Just needs the top edge smoothing and then the dolphin glaze prior to priming. The drivers side has the first coat of filler on it. I Hope to complete upto the self levelling putty by saturday, and then leave until monday until priming it all.

Is it possible to remove my ariel and use the heated screen element as a mast and if so what are the results like? thanks rich

hi guys, thanks for comments. Anyway, pics will follow this week but for a quick update: rear drivers arch if foamed, shaped, glassed and filled. The shape is all there, but it needs a skim of "dolphin glaze", my prefered self leveling filler. This should take out the waves as obviously this is a large area to fill. Rear bumper is glassed and filler will be going on this weekend, and passenger arch is shaped and ready for glassing. Between materials (foam, glass and filler) I have left for 2days each to set as to reduce sinkage and once final putty has gone on i will leave one week to harden before priming. The arches have turned out quite similar to the Top secret ones not, and the back looks very good IMO but still have much more work yet. I wont be happy until its as flat as i know i can get it as wavey panels absolutly do my head in!! oh and to let everyone know, without fibreglass and filler the arches were still strong enough to stand on (photo evidence:tongue:) and a bit of background about me: I have been a paint sprayer/body repairer for about 3 yrs now but am still learning every day. I never went to college to learn this stuff, but self taught while i was at uni (couldnt afford to pay someone else). It sort of developed from there and ive been doing it as a job ever since. Well, at least until my navy commission comes in Ive done a few wide arch kits this way, and boot installs. Its very good stuff and as i get the foam free its a good cost effective way of doing it. I have sprayed probably about 10 full modified cars now (not many i know but my work is normally crash damaged repair stuff) but with this supra i am going for the extra 10% in terms of quality and finish. anyway, as soon as pics are available ill post up. Sorry for the lengthy gaps between pics, but atm in the evenings im jugling between doing the supra and a '72 carrera RS restoration project so im flat out atm.

Are rear screens covered by insurance like front ones are? my girlfriend has fully comp on her insurance with diamond and she has found a crack in the rear screen and it seems to be growing!! Can she go via insurance and just pay an excess??
-
lol, let the bad comments roll in. I knew id get slated big time, it looks like a right shitter at the mo. Should be finished by the end of the month. tryingto fit in between jobs yes its expanding foam, 1 can weighs a few hundred grams and is strong enough to stand on the rear arches, so not going to fall apart when you prod the rear arches with a cotton bud, like ive seen many times before!
-
front end is all ready minus the do luck bumper and chargespeed bonnet (dont know if it will all flow together as theres a lot of different brands but will just have to see!!) but thought id try something different with the rear. Got the JDL kit cos it was a good base to use for the wide arches and the TRD spoiler accentuates the wideness, lol. basing the shape of the rear on the softer rounder Top secret/ BRS style as opposed to the chargespeed one. A little risky i first though as the front will be angled with te bonnet/bumper combo but the JDL rear bumper and arches arent completly flat so im hoping it will pan out. If it doesnt ill just rip everything off and go TS. Rear is all shaped but ive not uploaded latest pics so these are from a few days ago interior is getting a full cream leather/dark blue alcantara retrim, then just got the engine to turbo (in the process of sorting that out)
-
looks like thats just for left hand drive vehicles??
-
as i seem to have missed the recent group buy on the EL dials does anyone know where i can get these from?? I have a J-spec manual non-turbo. its a K reg too thanks richard

Im going for a full retrim on my supra but the guys that are doing it havent retrimmed a wheel before so i need to look elsewhere to get this done. Can anyone suggest anywhere to send the wheel and some material and get it retrimmed?? Its the only thing im stuck with at the moment

Does anyone know whether the 86-93 supra boss will fit the mkiv supra? Ive bought a momo wheel but i cant find a boss anywhere for my car. None on ebay either except for the earlier supras

i want my dash retrimminng but cant figure out how to remove the bloody thing. Ive removed the seats, carpet and centre console where the gear stick is. Ive also removed the plastic surround that goes around the dials and stereo etc. Ive also removed the A pillar covers. Surely there cant be much left...

well it maybe not that much, im not by the car right now, could only be 2.5 or so, but anyway, the problem is that i dont know if i need to extend the pipe to come out nearer the flap or not.
-
I am in the process of putting a wide arch kit on my supra, however, the rear near the petrol cap area is widened by approx 4inches. Does anyone have any ideas what i should do about extending the petrol pipe as i want to keep the flap flush. Some pictures would be nice too

are all the models interchangable, i.e non turbo, twin turbo, import and UK models? thanks in advance rich

Im finding it really difficult to find wheels for the rear of my car. I was oringally intending to get something around 10-11" wide but there doesnt seem to be anything out there for a price i can afford. Was intending to get some secondhand ones but missed out on some lovely veilside andrews on ebay last week (kicking myself big time over that one). Anyone know where i might find a set of secondhand or resonable priced new ones. Preferably with a GTR ish offset for my wider arches.
-
i didnt think the design if the wheel should make a difference. Only perhaps to whether it would clear UK spec brakes. I thought the whole point on the offset is to determine where the wheel would sit with regards to the hub.
-
On a 9.5" wide rim what would be the best offset to have the wheel fit completly flush with the arch? just wondering whether i should get an offset close to a GTR (et30) to get it fitting nicely thanks in advance rich
-
I was thinking about getting some Gmax springs on ebay for my girlfriends supra but noticed that they lower the car 40mm. I wondered whether this would work though as she has 19" rims already ordered. Is this going to be a problem with rubbing arches? If so then where the hell can i find some 30mm springs as i cant locate them anywhere thanks in advance rich
-
well dan has said it got to germany then they stopped the package due to the dimensions. Sent it back to germany. He is resending tommorow. JDL comms is very good i have to say!!
-
ok, i can do that no probs, what can i reattatch the rubber with then though??
-
im talking about the plastic bit that you can see from the outside of the car. Its not the rubber that makes the seal, but the pastic strip that is connected to the roof panel.
