  1. It is actually possible to wash a computer. Some companies who deal with insurance companies use ultrasonic machines to clean smoke damaged PC's (and other electrical items)...and then dry them in a low heat oven. Crazy stuff, but it does work (though not something you want to try at home).
  2. A new more aggresive species of grey squirrels have been discovered, this looks like the end for the red squirrels. Photo below.

    Ping Flood

Some ISP's have software that ping their own network to see if customers computers are at risk (ie: doesnt look like they have a firewall, etc). A good firewall wont respond to a ping request, and a really good firewall will block the IP of the pinging computer for a while. I've heard of ISPs with customers on static IP addresses sending out letters warning their customers of their computers vulnerability.
  4. He must like rough sex, though his idea of rough sex is probably a bit of bad language and a little scratching and biting, not having a chair smashed over his back and stabbed with a stilleto whilst being gagged with a mobile phone!
  5. We can't even protect our people in our own country thanks to all the bullshit we have to put up with....so I wouldnt get my hopes up of having any help from abroad.
  6. Im not sure either Mike, but not to worry. If your car doesnt come with an indication light inside, other motorists are happy to point it out with the international 'you have your fog lights on and its not foggy mate' wave: http://my.opera.com/bcdc/homes/blog/Wanker.jpg
  7. I seem to remember CW having a close shave with a Supra whose owner skimped on injector O rings - nearly set his garage (and himself) on fire!

    which 7 seater

VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy and Seat Alhambra are the same car, albeit with different front/rear light clusters and badges. Buy a SEAT to get a good price-for-spec version, and use either SEAT or FORD for parts to get cheap parts - basically stay away from VW, which is german I think for 'anal rape'. Vauxhall 7 seaters are only 7 seven seaters if you have 1 adult and 6 small kids, or 7 adults of which 6 are amputees! (way more space in the others.)
  9. Increasing the amount of RAM from 512MB to something like 1-2GB will improve things generally. Regarding the 'air dusters' for cleaning the inside of PC's, have your vac on with nozzle attachment to collect the airborne dust when giving it a blast. Also make sure your computer is completely powered off and cold (ie: give it 20 minutes from closing down to spraying with the air duster). Hot computer components and freezing air are not a good mix. Also, give it around 5 minutes after using the air duster before powering on, to ensure any chipsets, etc are back to room temp after spraying with the air duster.
  10. Christ, don't let the Government know about that or else they'll blame us UK motorists and impose more 'environmental' taxes on us in order to fund a scientific team to reduce global warming throughout the solar system!
  11. A fan speeding up is an indication of a component overheating. This could either be the CPU or Graphics card. A CPU generally gets hotter under load, so sounds like a process (piece of software) is consuming larger-than-normal CPU resources. General Maintenance of a PC would be: Deleting files to free up drive space :: Deleting TEMP files (anything with *.tmp) :: Emptying Browser Cache and History :: Uninstall any programs you dont use (be they 3rd party or Windows Components) :: Emptying Recycle Bin (obviously you do this last!) Cleaning up of System Registry Using something like Registry Mechanic to tidy up the system registry (remove old entries, therefore reducing registry size) Operating System Optimisation Using something like TweakXP (for XP users) to squeeze more performance out of XP Toning down windows themes and effects :: Use the Windows Classic Theme :: Remove all fancy menu effects :: Dont use a background image for your desktop Defragging Hard Drive(s) Pretty obvious, bear in mind you need atleat 5% of your total drive space FREE in order to use Windows Defragger. You dont mention what Operating System your using, or how much RAM you have, so hard to comment on that one.
  12. God dammit - Im going to hunt down an old gypsy woman and get her to curse this forums search feature - or me as I obviously don't know how to use it. Anyway, Im off to a dark room so I can cry alone in the corner at my repost
  13. I'm not that familiar with the other P5K family motherboards, but on the P5KC motherboard, which Im assuming the persons comments refer to, there are 6 slots (4 DDR2, 2 DDR3). The DDR2 slots are split into a pair of yellow and black slots. According to the manual, you should put 8500 memory into the yellow slots (these are slots A1 and B1 which you would normally use when running paired memory modules).
  14. The UK could reduce its carbon footprint overnight by half if all the councils would stop illuminating f*cking buildings at night. The only buildings needing illumination at night are the OPEN ones! ....not some f*cking town hall or other sh*t. And don't get me started on those pompus tw*ts who voted to give themselves a pay rise, whilst at the same time giving themselves more holidays! (the rage will consume me!).
  15. Quite a few cars here I wouldn't mind owning (once I've won the euro lotto!) http://corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=393612
  16. First I've heard - maybe it is on the P5K motherboard, but not the case on the P5Kc ...though I am hoping a BIOS fix will sort it in the future. Edit: Just checked out the Asus forums, it would appear there is a new bios (rev 0804) but the update info would suggest its just additional CPU support. But, for your info, here is the thread on 8500 support for P5K family mobo's: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&id=20070910190845281&board_id=1&model=P5KC&page=1&count=17
  17. The Asus P5K series motherboards have a stability problem running DDR2 8500 (1066) memory at its full speed. You may find that if you let BIOS auto-manage the memory it will be set to run at DDR2 6400 (800) speed. Manually configuring the memory may result in the computer not booting up or crashing often once in windows. I speak from experience - I have an Asus P5KC with Crucial 8500 (1066) memory - I have to run it as 6400 (800) for a stable platform.
  18. Off Topic, but Soldier of Fortune 3 is looking good http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/115217.html
  19. The 8800 GT looks like the best buy at the moment Homer (especially if you OC it), however the next gen nvidia cards are just around the corner and could mean some high end 8800 cards come down in price.
  20. I got my memory from them. At first I was a bit dubious as their website didnt look 'pro' enough in my opinion (looks shit in firefox)....plus they had stuff at cheap prices so I thought it maybe a scam website. However I called them up to see if they were legit and sure enough I had my memory at a great price the very next day. Can't fault them - but I wish they'd get a better looking website - black/grey is so "urggh" IMO
  21. Despite what the torrent sites say, it ISNT available (atleast, thats whats the MP beta forums would suggest). Its been listed on torrent sites for the last 7 weeks, and its released officially this friday You can enable DX10 features (very high) in DX9 (on XP) with some config hacks which I'm sure you'll find publicly available. However, you will need a good PC to do this without it resulting in unplayable FPS performance.
  22. Only if you dont already have a PC, otherwise you could salvage several parts from it (monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS key, pc case, cd/dvd, etc).
  23. Good point Pixelfill, but maybe they'll do one 'special order' and get it quicker. Alternatively, the 2nd one for "5 to 7 yrs (128 cm)" has a 3 day lead time, though I prefer the first one (not that I'll be wearing it lol).
