    carbon bonnets

Good luck to your mate, however the interest shown now may vary later on depending on his method and the make-up of the CF bonnet(s). For example: :: Will the bonnet contain both the inner frame and outer skin of the bonnet, or is he aiming for just a CF skin with custom reinforcement? :: Will it be made purely from CF or CF/FG? :: What ply will the CF have? :: What resin system will he be using? :: Is the resin system AV-Resistant? :: Will a vacuum process be used? Lots of variables involved (each affecting cost), and each one may/may-not appeal to individuals...hence the interest will waiver until a spec list has been nailed down.
  2. Its more than daft, its bloody hideous!
  3. If you've been involved in an accident involving a vehicle I think you have upto 3 years to claim unless your under 18, in which case your '3 year claim period' only starts once you turn 18. I think this ties in with the police retaining a full accident report (apparently worthless since they rarely seem to complete them properly!) for 3 years before they destroy it (keeping only a partial copy which isnt helpful in any claim). I could be wrong, but when I was younger I hit a 15yr old girl crossing a dual carriageway (entirely her fault with witnesses to prove it). I was cleared by the police of any fault and I thought that was the end of it. Nearly 6 years later I get a letter from a solicitor claiming on her behailf for £120,000 in damages. Since my witnesses could no longer be traced, the full police report was destroyed, and I can barely remember what I ate last week, let alone remember facts such as speeds, distances, lighting, conditions of some 6 years ago my insurance company (at the time of the accident) settled outside of court by paying her 50% of her initial claim! She better have a limp for the rest of her life!
  4. Theres also a company called RadTec who make SMIC for the Supra. You'll have to contact them for more info as their website doesnt list it (but they do make them). You may also want to check the dimensions of any replacement SMIC to ensure it is identical (and not modified) to the original Toyota design.

  6. This guy must have damn strong legs (not to mention had his gonads placed somewhere else!) http://www.flixxy.com/inspired-bicycles.htm
  7. I'd like to flush my PAS fluid with some new Dextron III. I've read the handy tutorial at: http://web.archive.org/web/20041209173121/www.reepa.com/psflush.php but noticed it was for a lexus and not specifically for the Supra. I was just wondering if the 8mm and 16mm diameter hosing is applicable to the Supra also, or do I need alternative diameter hosing to do this job on the Supra? Also, am I right in thinking that you should bleed the system by turning lock to lock (whilst the engine idles) when the wheels are both (a) on the floor and, (b) with the front wheels raised in the air...until there are no signs of any air in the system? Cheers
  8. Also check your tyre treads for stones, they can cause clicking noises
  9. Shocking quality for a composite but a good ending though
  10. I think the CF covers you see on ebay and other sites are CF-effect covers and not made from real CF. This is probably a good thing since CF conducts electricity so there is the potential to kill (atleast hurt) yourself should you be touching it and the cover comes into contact with both the + and - terminals on the battery!
  11. If you report it as an abandoned car the police will contact the owner about it, they may even arrange for the removal of it (at the owners expense). Out of curiousity, does it have the 9 spoke GS300 alloys (the ones made by TTE)? You may be able to flog them on here
  12. I hear Liam Neilson may be playing Hannibal.
  13. I blame the clothes manufacturers, they should only make clothes up to a certain size, with the only alternative outside of that range being a burka style gown. Lets face it, theres nothing worse than seeing a 'fattie' wearing a tight fitting (sometimes lycra!) top, its like watching a human lava lamp when they walk down the street. At the same time there are some some females (usually younger) that are like a walking bag of bones. As for the mags, I think the reason women like them so much is because women like to gossip so much.
  14. Has anyone looked at the new Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone?
  15. This post isnt directed at any individual, just a general comment that anyone thinking of buying a composite kit should bear in mind when making a purchase. Since 'replica' composites are generally hand made (and not machined like rubber/plastic oem parts), a composite is only as 'perfect' as the original part its mold was produced from (to echo what Dave said above). Sometimes composite manufacturers will be making molds from brand new mint panels, other times they will be making molds from battered panels that required lots of work to make the mold acceptable for production (im doing a nissan 240rs bonnet which falls into this category at the moment). If you're not working with a brand new mint panel, then you can only commit so much time into making a mold of acceptable production quality before you start to lose money on it (unless you have a rich client lol). Other quality issues to look for would be: :: Is the thickness of the composite even throughout and around the edges (areas where layers overlap can cause bulges that may affect aligning) :: Are there any visible air bubbles that may cause problems down the line, such as when you come to paint it. :: Is it of acceptable weight and stiffness? Most of the time when it comes to composites, the saying "you get what you pay for" couldnt be more applicable, though there are manufacturers that prove that saying wrong and do provide quality products at reasonable prices. The thickness will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer depending upon the type of composite and the amount of material used. For example: most replica body kits are of GRP (Glass Reinforced Platic) composition. A GRP composite made from 1 layer of 2 ounce CSM (Chop Strand Mat) will be lighter than one that is made from 2 layers of 2 ounce CSM (the latter providing more stiffness than the former). I'd imagine the OEM parts have some flex in them, so making a mold of a flexible part can cause issues unless you mold it whilst it is fitted to a car (I've done this before and it can be a nightmare of a job). At the end of the day I think Daves price is great (and Knight Racers for that matter) for a set of OEM skirts.
  16. The difference in price between differerent manufacturers selling the same chip-based graphics card is down to: :: What software/cables/manuals are packaged with it :: The Amount/Type of memory (512mb DDR5 or 1gb DDR3 for example - is it overclocked?) :: The Cooling Mechanism used The latter one will determine the noise and temp at rest/under load. The latter one will also determine how the hot air generated by the card is expelled, for example it will either be directed out the back of the case and thus lowering the internal temp of all components in the box, or it may just push hot air around inside the box and increase the temp of all internal components such as chipsets and hard drives (best avoided) Here is a great article comparing 4870 based cards by different manufacturers: :: http://www.behardware.com/articles/751-1/roundup-which-radeon-hd-4870.html
  17. Probably not wise to watch this at work....unless your self employed
  18. That looks like £100 women wont be saving then
  19. I can say this much, its really really hard with the keyboard!
  20. Aha, had thoughts of you with 20's or something like that. 18's will be fine with a decent suspension setup. I have 18s with a HKS Hypermax setup, very little roll but its hard as hell (you appreciate how shit the roads are when you feel every little bump and hole). Hopefully you'll find something with more comfort from the suggestions already posted.
  21. Personally I'd sell the wheels and get some smaller ones. If you have to roll the arches Im guessing your new wheels are bigger than 18s, at which point many threads on here would suggest handling has been decreased.
  22. Do you stand at the end of the bar on your own much when you go to the pub?
  23. Have you tried Lancaster Insurance? They offer agreed value.
  24. I have a sensor in the sump also, I average between 70 to 90 on mine, depending on my driving style.
  25. The UV rays wont affect the carbon itself, but it can cause the resin to go milky/cloudy if the resin used in the composite isnt UV stable.
