Edd 4 x screws in the `eye brow` piece above the dash. The whole section comes out and you will find the block connectors attached to the units. 2 minute job!
-
Better to do it properly. It only takes a few minutes to re-set it and is dead simple. NB, in your signature should it not say Supra rather than `Subaru`!!
-
Cheers for the post Ben Yep, that sounds like the bugger!!! You cant always make it happen, sometimes its very noticeable other times nothing! What do you think it is? As a few people have now experienced this it must be more of a common occurance than I thought? You mentioned `wolfing`? Dont know what this is?
-
Does this now make pre 94 Supras more desirable and therefore more valuable !!!!! Wey Hey........ $$$$$$$$$
-
I think its an affiliation more than anything. We all know that you dont buy a Supra cause its great for the kids, ample shopping space and `its just so economical` and we all awknowledge each other for that!! Anyone who owns one has bought it because its not `vanilla` and wants that little bit more than average!
-
Virtual Intelligence Lifeform - well this is what my girlfriend keeps telling me anyway!!!
-
Before I go out and get a pair does anyone have any kicking about? Even part used would be OK (as long as they are not trashed). They only need to last a short time until I eventually get round to sorting the breaking out properly.
-
`Ray` that might be me.... I travel up and down the M4 and round Reading/Slough daily. If it is me then I`m not ignoring you just concentrating on `Mondeo Man` from pulling out in front of me and causing a pile up (I love the M4 in rush hour!!!) I always wave to other owners, however there is one guy who travels the M4 with what looks like a stock `Saphire Blue` TT who definately blanks you. Have even pulled up alongside him and he has only then forced himself to awknowledge me!!!

It does sound a bit like something resonating. I will also try and get it recorded as it could be useful to other club members in the future. Ian, I do get a lot of `amplified` noise through the aftermarket filter (lots of induction noise etc) but its only recently that I have started to hear this and the filter set up has been the same for years!
-
`Red` thanks for the response. Mines sounds more like a `yawl`, sounds a bit like your humming through a pipe (for want of a better description)!! I dunno, I`m coming round to the idea that it could be any one of a number of things and only a trip to Mr Mechanic is going to solve it...... better call the bank manager and prepare him !!!!
-
`Red` thanks for your comment `Ian` also mentioned the same thing earlier in the thread. I cant recall ever hearing this before and directly connected it to another issue I had with a split pipe causing a wastegate `chatter`. As you both have experienced this then perhaps I need to look at the possibility of the box. What noise do you both get, how often, what sort of speed/rev range etc Any help you can offer is much appreciated. Note, if it does turn out to be the box is this something to be worried about as it seems to be doing it more often than not?

Bob, would be very interested to know what you find. Have you got any idea as to when you will be taking a look at yours? I only ask as I need to book mine back in with `Phoenix` as the boys need the car longer to see what the problem might be. If you find out anything then it may help me to steer them in the right direction! (and save me a bit of cash) !!!
-
MMmmmm.... I dont think so as it seems to be directly connected to the turbos spooling up.
-
Thanks for the measurements Time to give it a go. I will have a look around to see if there is a post on the us site about using this space for a sub install. If I find anything I will post it into this thread.
-
The noise does come in at the same time and only when the turbos are starting to spool up. Once they are up and spinning no more noise. I was still hoping for a pipe leak or something similar and the noise is some sort of air escape/draw. The odd thing is that it does not do it every time, sometimes no noise, other times quite distinctive? If it was a `death whine` would it not make the same noise each time and continue through spool up to full power? Am I not right in thinking the `death whine` only occurs on UK/US metal fan turbos and the ceramic jap specs dont whine they just detonate!!!
-
Has anyone experienced a hum/drone noise from jap spec turbos before? When I am accelerating gradually and the turbos are spinning up (say 40+ MPH) i`m getting a hum/drone noise that quickly dies off when the turbos eventually pick up more speed? It sounds similar but not the same as the dreaded `death whine` on UK spec turbos and only lasts for a few seconds (if that) when the turbos start to boost. This is further to my inital thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=46929 for which part of the problems I had was down to a split hose.

`Sco` did you get a change to measure the space available? Cheers VIL
-
`Sco` thanks for that, most useful. I would be very interested in the dimensions as I intend to do a twofold sub system and want to untilise this space. `Paul`, you have a very good point. I have also looked at this contraption in the past and debated should I or should I not take it out as I thought there may be some structural benefit to retaining it. It seem insane that Toyota with their attention to detail should make what looks like a real afterthought of a Sub (LOL) enclosure!
-
The `Dragger` when you tried to physically move it seemed solid enough. But you have to think of the travelling forces involved, you hit a pot hole or speed bump at 20/30 + MPH and the exhaust is going to move on its hangers. If the clearance between it and the rear arm is narrow then the likelyhood is they will contact. I`m certainly not suggesting this is the answer to your problem but might be worth investigating further. Noisy/thumping rear ends seem to be common place amongst Supra owners for a variety of reasons so its worth exploring all avenues.
-
Scoboblio, I was thinking of taking mine out and putting a proper `sub tube` in the gap. As a matter of interest before I start ripping things out do you know the dimensions of the gap you now have available? NB Was it easy to remove? any cables etc to worry about?
-
Ah... thats where it all falls appart for me ;0( Cant really make it in `school hours`!! Unless that unexpected dentist appointment happens! If you do any evening or weekend meets I`m in!!!
-
Would love to come along to one of these. What time do they usually take place?
-
I had a thud/bump sound also. Go over a hole or speed bump and clunk there it was. At the time I had a HKS SuperDragger fitted that was beaten to **** due to grounding out on speed bumps etc. Under the car it was bent up and only 1/4" off the rear arm of the car. Got the Dragger changed and hey presto no more bump sounds! So I guess it was hitting the rear arm when jolted. Check you exhaust is clearing your rear arms, especially if its aftermarket!

I had a similar problem fitting an aftermarket stereo. The stereo worked fine on a bench test but not in the car! Eventually we narrowed it down and found that you needed to have a second live feed to one of the wires. (or two lives wired into the same terminal). I`m not suggesting you play around with this as it could have dire consiquences but it might point you in the right direction. I would double check the wiring diagram to see if it suggests two live feeds. Dont know if this helps.
