Hi Homer, their EBC (standard road) pads. If you remember the wear material on the pad seems so hard its actually scoring groves on my discs! (the buggers!) FYI, The discs are Genuine Toyota. Thinking of backing the pads with cotton wool and marsh mallows to see if that helps!!!

Totally random thought today as I was driving back home. Are there any really famous people that own Supras? I remember Top Gear or 5th Gear or one of them doing a special on the bloke who owns `Phones4U` and he had a white UK spec at the time but I cant recall anyone really famous owning a Supra. There must be some?

Mine are shocking as well. New front pads and discs about 5000 miles ago and they squeal like a stuck pig! (no pun intended!) Its actually getting embarrasing as it sounds like there is something wrong with the car! I used to love it when people would to look round when they heard the sup coming. Now all they hear is Roar, Woosh, Squeeeeaaaaallllllll ! Not Cool! If anyone knows how to stop or reduce this I would love to know as well! NB sorry to steal the thread, As a quick side issue the reason I changed my fronts was beacuse I warped one of the discs. The discs where a well expensive drilled and groved set. Can these be re-machined to take out the warp or are they just scrap as their currently taking up space in my garage?

I think your right! I work in IT and I know you do, must be something in the blood! After a hard day slaving over a hot PC we need to find that escape from it all!

Thanks for your help, that points me in the right direction !

Really annoyed that I get to miss out on things like this! Damn my working life! Would have loved to have caught up with you all, especially as there seems to be loads of Supra owners in Reading and surrounding area for some reason? Does anyone know why? Has anyone taken a poll to see how many owners there are in Berkshire?

Ok, and that cured it? How did you diagonose where the problem was in the first place?
-
Cheers for that, what did you do to sort it out?

One for the tech guys. A while ago I had an intermittent issue with my auto box. Sometimes when I started up the car and took it out of P and into Drive there was no engagement of the box. ie it was like finding a false neutral on a manual? I had to drag the stick up and down L, 1, 2, D etc until it engaged or turn of the ignition and try again? At its worst the box would find Drive and as you pulled away would shudder and stall (and on an auto thats pretty unfunny when you pull into oncomming traffic!) :thumbdown I attributed this to poor/or low gearbox oil and had it changed. Funnily enough this seemed to cure the problem for quite a while (8/10 months ago), however a few weeks back it happened again which makes me think it could be a sensor, selector, the gearbox oil needs changing again etc? NB, a side effect to this happening was that the orange slip control light would start to flash and would only re-set once the car ignition had been turned off then back on? Any thoughts

All I will say on the matter is that I `naively` used him when I first bought my Sup 3 yrs ago for a general service and full belt change (just to make sure everything was tip top with my new baby). It took him 3 days (he was full of excuses as to why) and I wont even tell you what the bill came to, he also charged me for things that subsiquently I now know did not need to be changed. Ah hindsight is a wonderful thing........

I hate to admit it but I also have been messed about by this guy to my expense.

AA always! Years ago I had a Triumph TR7 (coz I loved spending money needlessly and thought rust was a good thing!) and went with the RAC. On one of its many breakdowns on the M4 they left me stranded there for 5 hours and sent two wrong towing vehicles in that time! After complaining I got my money back but would never go back to them or recommend anyone else does. Pay the little bit extra with the AA for quality service. IMO go for the £90 option from memory as this includes you and your car taken to your choice of destination rather than the nearest garage. Breaking down in the middle of the night and sleeping in your car on a garage forecourt is not fun, take it from me!

This guy is obviously trying to prove to the world that is is possible to polish a turd!

Si I wouldnt worry about it too much. I have had my Sup for 3 years now and its has smoked form the moment I bought it (the common puff of smoke on cold start up). To give you a rough idea if the tubs or the oil seals, take it out and give it a bit of stick, get home and turn off straight away and leave it overnight. In the morning when you turn it over take a mental note of how much smoke you get. Take it out again the next day but this time let it idle and cool down for ten mins, again in the morning start it up from cold, if the puff of smoke is less than the day before it points to the tubs, if its about the same as the day before its more like oil seals. Note this is a very rough guide! Some of the tech boys may say this is wrong but this is what I have been told in the past by a reputable garage!

I have changed mine in the past as part of the LED strip stopped working (ie some of the LED worked, others didnt). NB, Worth getting someone to sit there with their foot on the brake while you check round the back as sometimes it will come on then go out again? Dont know why? Unfortunately the LED light is a sealed (glued) unit so I just got another one from Supra breaker - cost about £25 from memory.

Ask him what colour it is? If the response is `Microsoft Purple` then you know hes up to no good!!

Silver, no bodykit. Seen you a few times now travelling towards Reading on the M4 at about 8:00 in the morning deep in thought! NB if it is you, you might want to check your rear lights as I think you have a bulb out!

Depends if you want branded or not? You can if you shop around get an non-branded set for £400 fitted.

Thats really rough, I have a Fireblade which I love to bits and know how i`d feel if someone did that to it! The worst I heard of is a friend of a friend. Went on holiday (abroad) so parked his bike at the end of his garage and pulled his Jag in behind it. Came home with a lovely tan only to find that the ******* broke into the garage, lifted up the bike and dragged it over his car, never to be seen again. Ouch!!

If you do go to DELL then call them up `it will always goes to a far eastern call centre` and firstly spec up the PC you want with the minimum of additions, eg basic spec leaving out things like DVD writer, go for CD writer only etc and get them to give you a price. (NB IMO as a basic starting point your better going for a Dimension 5000 rather than the cheaper 3000 as the 5000 is component/motherboard upgradable for the future). Wait until the end of the month or even better today the end of the calander quarter as with all IT companies they have to make targets. Get your haggling head on and then start building up the spec but at the same time try to keep them adding in things at the minimum costs they can do it for. You might be supprised what you can get and end up with! Its amazing what they will throw in to get the deal, printers, extended warranties, additional software, upgraded monitors, additional RAM etc. The key is to get them to give you things that would be of value to you and low cost to them and you will drive the deal! NB always good to have an imagionary spec of a PC and pricing that you can use to drive down the price and be prepared to walk away from the deal if you cant get the price you want. DELL to be honest are good, and their service/build quality is good.

Hi Simon To be honest I dont know whats causing it, but it seems as with yourself and others that it is a common issue. I`m supprised non of the technical guys have ever experienced this and looked into it before. I was hoping `Bob` was going to come back after taking a look at his turbos with some idea of whats going on? My concern is that its the start of a turbo issue and I dont fancy the thought of having them detonate unexpectedly!
-
`Nurzo` Thanks for your post.... its nice to hear that there are some Supras stuck to the underside of the planet !!!!!!! ;0) Mine is not so much of a whine, but a `low noise howl` but could be the same thing! My only real concern (as others seem to experience something similar) is that it never used to do it and nothing has been changed or messed with! Why is it doing it now?

For anyone who has grubby carpets and just want to clean them up I recently bought a twofold cleaner and teflon spray from B&Q. (impulse buy) I could not believe how well this worked!! Foam cleaner really does get all the dirt out of the carpet and brings up the colour. You then let it dry and coat it with a teflon spray to seal it and keep it looking good. The whole kit was about £7.00 and is just enough to do the cars interior. Well worth it!!
