Nobody even close to this on price at the moment. They are buying business. However, from my understanding, the issues that are making me hold off at the moment: - The 8Mb broadband won't generally be available until BT provide local loop unbundling. Until then you'll probably only get 1-2Mb (although this still works out a lot cheaper than other equivalent packages) - You have to sign up for 18 months. A lot could happen in that timeframe. - TalkTalk are getting flooded with subscribers. They are going from a few thousand customers total to tens of thousands of new sign-ups per week. I'm not convinced their network capability or support service are geared up to cope with it. That said, it's looking like a great package and I'm also keen to start hearing some real feedback from subscribers.....

I've only driven an Evo once - passengered a few times. My problem with it is that it seems to drive itself! Start getting out of shape, you just point it in vaguely the right direction and plant the throttle and the car just sorts itself out - definitely faster A to B on all but the straighest roads, unless you're a very good Supra driver (which I'm not.......yet.... ) but somehow less fun. IMO, anyhow. YMMV, of course......

Precisely - I started out with an Escort and then a 16v Clio. It wasn't until I'd been driving for about 7 or 8 years that I got a BMW 328 (yeah, yeah - I know) and then the Supra a couple of years after that, and I still only feel like I'm just learning the limits of my driving ability. If I'd got the Supra (or even the BMW) five years before, I'm pretty sure I would have wrapped it round a tree (or worse) before not long. At the time I was looking to get a hatch, the Clio (and a battered one at that!) was all my budget could stretch to - a CTR would have been great - have fun out there, mate!

hehe - as I said - I think it just feels like a more involving drive than a 4WD, but that's just me - I'm not going to diss Scoobys, mate - they're just a different kind of car. A friend of mine has a P1, and he can scare the cr*p out of me! From a standing start, in the rain or on the back roads, he'll skin me every time....... mind you, he's a damn sight better driver than I am too......

I've driven a WRX Scooby and an Evo 7 and enjoyed it, but found that to feel like you're driving it to your limit, you really have to push it to crazy speeds round bends. I prefer being able to drive the Supra on the limit of it's grip (or, more usually, the limit of my driving ability!), and doing it at speeds where I know I can handle it if it gets out of shape. It feels like much more of a challenging, involving drive than a scooby in that sort of situation. Unfortunately, it's those bumpy back roads that are the ones where you know the cameras aren't watching and you can really hammer them in a 4wd. The Supra is better on a more open A road, but that's when you have to be careful about who might be watching......

I've just signed up for one of the T-Mobile Flext tariffs. You get an allowance to use per month for texts or calls. Sign up with T-Mobile direct, you get 25% discount so their Flext 35 plan, for example, you get 900 anytime minutes or 1800 texts per month (or any combination inbetween) for £26. If you use internet on your phone, they've also just introduced a £7/month "unlimited" (I think it's actually a flexible 40MB limit) internet access add-on. Downsides with T-Mobile is the network is pretty lousy (check coverage in your area first) and the Flext tariffs are an 18-month, not a 12-month contract. CTR's FWD, isn't it? That amount of power through the front wheels would scare me silly! They're nice hatches, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to go back to a FWD now. RWD is just too much fun.....

My old 16v Clio taught me all about lift-off O/S!

IMO, this is the oil industry basically predicting a US invasion of Iran within the next 12 months. Isn't it strange how every country that has threatened (or in Iraq's case, succeeded - albeit briefly) to move their oil industry from the US Dollar market into the Euro market also seems to be guilty of illegal nuclear programs? What a remarkable coincidence! In fact, Iran are probably even more at risk than Iraq ever was.... Iraq started selling oil in Euros just to the european market in 2000 (the US had fixed that and moved the sales back into US dollars by 2003).... Iran, however, have set up a whole new competing market for selling oil, ONLY in Euros. I believe the market was only up and running about a month ago, so we're bound to see some impact on oil prices (and, more importantly, on US foreign policy! ie. I wouldn't be surprised if Iran was to be "discovered" running an "illegal" nuclear program sometime very soon).

Just tried a friend's Britax rear-facing infant seat in the soop and no chance. It wasn't secure in the back and the belt isn't long enough to put it in the front. Anyone with any make/model recommendations? Brain? Did you find out what yours was?

Actually, the cornering is an interesting point. Most of the clio drivers I've seen round here can go really quick round roundabouts in town (and get really impressive wheelspin and drive really quickly up the high street ). Seriously, tho, I wouldn't like to put money on whether the clio or the supra cornered faster at lower speeds - the early V6's were apparently a nightmare, but they redesigned the chassis in the 255 with an increased wheelbase, wider front track and revised front suspension.

Just sounds like a complete idiot, mate. The lack of respect for the Supra just smacks of a a total lack of knowledge. Here at my work there are some other nice cars: One guy has just got a BMW M-Coupe. It matches me in a straight line, but has the edge over me in the twisties and from a stationary start. One guy has an Elise. It's not even close in a straight line, but again, he'll kill me in the bends (he's a damn sight better driver than I am too ). One other guy has a heavily modded Evo VII. I can beat him once we're over 100, but apart from that it's all his. Another guy here races a Caterham 7. He's vanished into the distance before I've even thought about pressing the accelerator! There's a few others too with Scoobies, Porsches, M BMWs, etc. Some of the cars here are faster than mine, some are slower. Some handle better than mine, some handle worse. Some are more expensive than mine, some are cheaper. Some look prettier than mine.....(actually - no - I'll take that back. Mine IS the best looking car in the car park! ). Some of these guys drive better than I do, some don't. But my point is that even with all of these comparisons, all these guys have total appreciation for mine and eachothers cars - what they're capable of, what they were designed for, etc. because these guys all know what they're talking about. They love going for a drive in my car and I enjoy drives in theirs because we're all basically car fans, not CLUELESS KNOB-JOCKEYS!

Awww man, just realised you're running a single too. Get him out on the strip. Bet money. Lots of money!!! This is a no-brainer!

Not sure about those stats, either. Quick search on google turned up: 255BHP/6.3 0-60/146mph TOP http://www.supercars.net/cars/3314.html 255BHP/6.3 0-60/146mph TOP http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=1482 255BHP/5.8 0-60/152mph TOP http://www.topspeed.com/cars/renault/index83.html 255BHP/6.0 0-60/144mph TOP http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=108669&Renault Maybe he was comparing to an N/A Soop? It should beat an N/A in a straight line - both 3l engines, with the Clio about 100Kg lighter. Must admit, I don't mind the V6 for a hothatch. They are very short wheelbase and RWD with no traction control, so they can be a real fun handful to drive, but in a straight line, not even close to a turbo soop!

Oh - and I agree with you on the blonde.... ....although the girl of MY dreams would also let me beat her at strip poker!

Victim of my own competitiveness. I'm watching my life tick away infront of me in a series of short, Flash-powered amusements Just got another high score this lunchtime, incidentally!

NEVER.... ....set up your roadblock immediately after a dirt side road. Schoolboy error, that one.

Well, with the little one due in less than 3 months, it's time to start getting all the necessary together. First on the list is a baby seat. Did a quick search and found a couple of threads, but these only seemed to mention forward-facing seats. Instead, I'm needing a rear-facing infant seat, and was wondering if anybody had tried fitting one in the back of a soop. If so, what make should I look out for? Cheers for any help! ben.

Trillian here. Easy to set up and lets me connect on Yahoo and MSN with one piece of software.

Fascinating that the topic started on floaters then moved onto....well....floaters, I guess!!

I think that probably says more about people in general in this day and age rather than people at the gym specifically, no?

Ouch - good spot, Jake. HDMI 1.3 isn't going to be affordable any time soon! Forget about that then!

Note, however, that the X-Box 360 HD is a slight misnomer. It's only 1080i, upscaled from native 720p. The PS3 IS going to be native 1080p, however, I understand. That said, I can't personally afford a 1080p TV (actually - can't even afford a 360 yet!), so it makes not much odds to me.... ....

Superb. That line I'm gonna remember!

The GC Motors one? Done 132k miles - getting a little on the high side if it's not been looked after properly, I guess.
