  1. Took me 6 weeks of letters backwards and forwards just to transfer a reg plate, ending up with 6 separate specific forms to be filled in, which they kept sending back asking for slightly different corrections. I just wanted to speak to someone to clarify what needed to be filled in, but you can't actually get hold of a real person on their phone menu system (which they got hauled up over earlier this year because the convoluted system + high call charges was a multi-million pound profit for them!) and they wouldn't call ME, despite me giving them contact details which THEY requested!
  2. I pass this one often. Used to be a MkIII parked there before the MkIV. Didn't get a reply last time I mentioned it on here, tho.
  3. After the original Wii release, I don't think Sony and M/S have been trying to compete with Nintendo on delivery dates in the same way they are with eachother. I doubt they regard the Wii 2 as significant competition in the "serious gamer" market space.
  4. We went to the NCT classes and it was really good for meeting other new parents - many of which we still see and our children have remained good friends with. So much so that we're organising group weekend trips. As for the classes - they were really good for learning about the birth itself but, frankly, sod all use in terms of actually looking after a baby.
  5. At a quick glance, I'd say this one is worth about £7.5 IF you believe the mileage figure. I'd be sceptical of a 15-year-old car with only 50k miles on it.
  6. What if it's intended to be a compromise? I may want a secretary AND a model, but I've only got the budget to run one!
  7. THIS. Good knife skills are the cornerstone of efficient prep. Only after honing my knife skills did I really start freeing myself from prep work to concentrate properly on the actual cooking. It makes the whole cooking process unbelievably easier and less frustrating.
  8. The prince marries a princess, the bad guy dies, the sun is shining and we all live happily ever after. This week's news was brought to you by Disney.
  9. Guildford Toyota/Lexus wouldn't even talk to me about the Aristo.
  10. So - did anyone else watch the first episode last night? Personally I thought it was a cracking effort. If they can keep up that level of quality and faithfulness to the books it's going to be a superb series. Glad HBO didn't shy away from the gratuitous violence, sex and shocking story lines from the books.

    Reg Transfer

Gotcha. That's superb. Thanks for all the advice, Abz!

    Reg Transfer

Asked the trader about it. He didn't seem interested. Said he "wouldn't get involved" and I "could sort it out if I wanted to do it". As far as I can make out, I need him to actually be complicit in at least letting me send his V5C2 off for him with the transfer.....

    Reg Transfer

Cheers! Do you then send it off with both V5/C2s, both MOT certificates and a cheque for £80 ?

    Reg Transfer

Anyone any experience with transferring a registration plate? I am trading in my car for something else next week, and want to transfer my number plate onto the new car, but the DVLA documentation and the V317 form aren't entirely clear as to how to go about it when cars are changing hands at the same time.
  15. Whilst everyone gets excited at the pseudo-wealth in the economy when house prices are increasing, and everyone seems desparate for house prices to keep climbing (for some bizarre reason), what has seemingly gone under the radar is what that means to housing benefits. If house prices double, the value of provided housing also doubles. Therefore, those who have provided housing are doubly less inclined to do anything (like going to work) that loses that value. I remember the example which was in the media (I'm guessing the Daily Mail? ) a couple of years back of the guy with 8 kids who had a provided 5 bedroom house. He had calculated he needed a salary of something like £60k to justify going back to work (from a purely monetary perspective).

    choosing a supra!

Not if you live near enough to a specialist, like Chris Wilson, for example!
  17. At this juncture, I would just like to point out that I no longer own a Supra. Repeat: I am NOT a Supra owner.
  18. Erm - our companies (Rio Tinto?) already own a cr*p load of the Zimbabwean diamond mines. That's the difference. Don't want to stir up trouble there if it puts that interest at risk "unnecessarily" (what's a little bit of human rights amongst friends, heh?).
  19. Wow - you just reminded me that I haven't actually seen Ponyo yet! I was kinda excited about it when it was coming out, but completely forgot about it since! At your recommendation, I shall away and order it immediately!
  20. Oh - we can't use all the oil either, but we sure would like it to be us, rather than Gadafi, who gets to sell it to China. (and when I say "us", I mean western companies, unfortunately not "us" as countries )
  21. LOL - forgot about this. The film (which, incidentally, we were up watching again a 6:00am this morning when 1-year old son-the-younger decided it was time to wake up) is: My Neighbour Totoro Fantastic film for young 'uns - I'd say it must be the "nicest" film ever made, and with the possible exceptions of "Spirited Away" and "Grave of the Fireflies" (not for kids!!!), the best of the Ghibli productions, IMO.
  22. Uh-huh. Nothing to do with oil at all. That's why the UN have been straight in and sorted out Mugabe and the atrocities which he has performed - oh no, wait - they haven't. He hasn't got any natural resources, has he.
