  1. Interesting point about subjectivity. I do agree, I just wonder if focusing purely on the actual death (severing of the neck vs. throwing in a river) matters that much? What about the pain/incarceration suffered during an animal's life? What about the fact that the animals life is being cut short (regardless of method)? Surely these things have to be taken into consideration too? For example, what about chicken farming vs fox hunting? during life, the (battery) chickens are kept in uncomfortable conditions vs. the fox, which runs free both animals lives are cut short (not sure of the comparative length of life) chicken is killed "humanely", fox is scared and hunted To me, it is very hard to say which of these is crueller than the other - but most people seem to (indirectly) condone the chicken farming but condemn the fox hunting, because they only consider the actual killing of the animal.
  2. I think this is the heart of the debate. I do NOT believe there is a "whole world of difference between the two". If you really believe that "meat for food isn't treated cruelly", then I, like Mike and RedM (despite me actually coming from the other direction!) think you are deluding yourself. If you choose to delude yourself to settle your own conscience, I don't really mind, but I personally think doing so and then condemning anyone else who is cruel to animals is hypocritical.

    Got rimz?

Will someone please explain to me what I'm missing, I really, really, really don't get why people get soooo excited over wheels. Give me lightweight wheels with the best handling characteristics and make them as cheap as possible. I don't care what they look like! Is there something I'm not getting? Am I just getting old?
  4. Almost totally with RedM here - the hypocrisy manifesting as actual physical threats on another human is actually quite scary reading. The pack mentality of people (who seem to want to be "outraged" more and more these days) is rather frightening. I only wish I had the willpower to actually give up meat eating, but I'm afraid I like it more than I care about cruelty to animals, I guess. Sorry! I would probably also try to hang on to the "food chain" argument if I was actually going out, catching them and killing them with my bare hands, but no - I am paying someone else to farm them, and force them to live their short, miserable lives packed shoulder to shoulder, knee-deep in their own sh*t.
  5. Yep. Disgusting. Almost put me off my McChicken sandwich. nom nom nom.
  6. This. Make sure you report it!

Looking good. When can I bring my car down to get fixed?
  9. Errr - "maybe" (see below) and "yes" (in a straight line). Whilst you can certainly throw them around, it definitely felt more like an exec car (more detached from the road, bouncier suspension, less pointy steering) than the Supra to me. But to be honest, I can't really speak for handling per se, as I never really drive at the limit enough to gauge that, so whether it actually cornered any slower or not I couldn't tell you.
  10. I had one prior to the Supra. My advice: do NOT get a '95. Mine had serious valve stem issues and eventually went up in flames (insurance payout got me a Supra, so - silver lining and all). As it turns out (with some digging required), this was, apparently, a known problem on the '95 engine. The car was re-issued in '96 with the problem suppsoedly "alleviated". A friend of mine had a P-Reg '96 and he ran that for several years without encountering the problem. Aside from that - yeah - nice car. Not too much of a step down from an N/A Supra. The handling is not too shabby, and it's only 20hp less than the Supe. As long as you can cope with the BMW image, I would happily recommend the car (assuming you stay away from the '95s!).

    Why '60'

...or....if 2 digits was a real limitation, they could have just started at 01 and gone up one with each issue (01-99)! That would also have been simple AND coped with changes in the number of issues per year (I guarantee they'll want to change the number of issues before that 50 years is up!) Promise you - it was done just to create lots of saleable plates.

    Why '60'

It was basically a short-term money spinner for DVLA bosses. The 0's and 5's shenanigans was invented by the DVLA in 2001 because they realised how many words can be created with 0s as 'O's and 5s as 'S's - giving them loads of "personalised" plates to sell off at premium prices for the first 10 years. Of course, whoever takes over at the DVLA now will get flamed for not making as much money as his predecessor, but hey - that's how things work, right? The crazy notion of using 0's and 5's then 1's and 6's doesn't really make any sense. The sensible way to do it would to have had one digit for the issue number (1 - 1st issue of the year, 2 - 2nd issue of the year) followed by a 2-digit year. That way, they could have kept the flexibility to change the number of issues without mucking up the scheme, AND it would have been a lot simpler.
  13. Has anyone tried MBT shoes for any considerable period?
  14. Hip Hop on Precinct 13, anyone?
  15. Love it when it takes off at the end. One flick of the tail and.....gone.
  16. Nick Cage is a funny one. He truly is a terrible actor, but he's been in some of my favourite films: Leaving Las Vegas Wild at Heart Adaptation Bringing Out The Dead Lord of War Another underrated jobbing actor IMO is David Thewlis. Watch the fantastic film "Naked" for his absolute best.
  17. Why would you want to do that? ...or do you just mean "get taller"?
  18. There's three ways of doing 3D, I believe. One is red/blue, which wrecks the colour. One is polarised (light for each eye is polarised in different directions), which needs 2 projectors, or a special TV with a filter (and you lose half your pixel resolution). One is shuttered (the glasses have shutters which black out for alternate frames), which loses half your frame rate, and needs expensive glasses with batteries. Most of the new TVs use shuttering. It's the cheapest to build. Not sure what they use at cinemas. ....and no amount of technology will stop Jaws 3 being a rubbish film!
  19. Hahahaha - that's the very first thing I thought when I watched it too. That would have been class!
  20. +1 for great summer here. Was a bit worried at first, as back in May/June, the first few weeks of decent weather, it seemed to be good in the week and then rubbish at the weekend, but after that it's been really good until this week when we've had a couple of small showers.
