Just a quick thread to highly recommend these chaps in Liskeard,Cornwall. Ross and Mark have sorted my girl out and she is running like a dream again (better than when I bought her 4 years ago) Although they are advertised as been GTO specialists I couldn't praise them enough with the supra. Im not saying that a standard car garage wouldn't have got to the cause of the problem (eventually) but I do believe that because they really know their stuff that they got it sorted much quicker and cheaper than many of the garages down here would have. Im not mechanically minded, sadly, so my interpretation of what was the problem and what has been done is not very concise but as I am looking to sell very soon Russ has said he will happily talk to any prospective purchasers should they wish but as far as I can understand the miss fire; see original thread - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=203846&highlight=miss+fire Was due to ECU and Injector issues. The ECU its self had 'blown' but the cause of that was because one of the injectors was sticking open. Their ASNU injector testing machine was able to identify this and the injectors were then serviced and retested - http://www.sumiyaka.co.uk/html/tips.htm ECU was sent off to the ECU doctor in Plympton and then all re-fitted (along with a new Lambda sensor as this was also kaput) They also picked me up from the train station when I went for it and made what can only be described as the nicest coffee from a garage facility I have had! Well I hope this thread gets them a bit of work as its the least I can do. As for the car, I shall get pictures and get it advertised on here in the next month but from what I can see not a lot is selling on here at the moment, perhaps new prospective owners aren't aware of the site - which is a real shame, I wish Id have know about it before buying, i'm pretty sure I would have got more for my money. Aaaah, I shall check this - would I be looking for breaks in the plastic and lose wires etc? Have just gotten off the phone from a mobile mechanic who is coming out tomorrow and he seems to think that there is a possibility that it may be the crank sensor...his girlfriend has a Scooby import and had very similar problems, diagnostic showed faulty lambda sensor and this was changed but made no difference, he then noticed a hairline fracture in the crank sensor that was letting in water and causing issues - sound plausible? Adam

Thank you for the reply, some responses for your further thoughts; Only one cylinder seems to be misfiring (3rd from front) the plug was soaked in fuel but dont expect this is the cause just a result of the problem. I dried it up and also swapped it with another plug and the same cylinder misfiring. Also swapped coilpacks and no change... Clips have been replaced and still it misfires. Im not sure whether there should be a reading and if so what it should be but we have hooked up a ampmeter for reading and the wires leading to that coilpack/plug barely made 1volt but Im not sure if this is normal or if it wont actually read correct when not hooked up to the colipack (incomplete circuit etc) Only say its running rich based on the incredibly rich smell of petrol out the exhaust..runs white but I don't give the engine long enough to warm up as I am worried about running it too long - perhaps I should get it to a garage and get diagnostics and compression test done. Thank you Chris, thought this might be the one to look at...the orange check engine light was permanently on whilst the engine was running not after I started to perform a diagnostic check..is this normal? Adam

Just to add, the warning light is the picture of the engine, I looked at an old thread and it relates to; Engine/Gearbox Symbol - Malfunction Indicator Lamp.... Any thoughts? Thank you

Worrying thread..mine seems to have similar symptoms; New plugs were fitted and that sorted the missfire for a couple of weeks then it came back. Have replaced a couple of bad looking connectors and swapped coilpacks around and it is the same cylinder with the missfire. I now have an engine warning light, how do I see what the fault code is? Is there anything that would have caused a melted valve or piston? Adam

Thank you mate I shall get cracking on that after the new year and see if there are any plug issues. Am I going to cause any major problems running it on 5 cylinders to drive it to a garage...about 5 miles? Its running very rich but think I would benefit having a mechanic take over after Im out of options. Cheers

Well I have changed the coilpacks round and it is still the same cylinder missfiring so not them. Im going to check the connectors again and also plugs (they are new but want to make sure not faulty) Just wondering what is next if none of the obvious....injector, valves?? Thank you

As in try the suspected broken coilpack in another positon to see if it affects that cylinder?? I like your thinking! Adam

Just wondering what is the best way of checking the coilpacks. Car began missfiring this summer so I got the car serviced, the plugs were replaced and this sorted the missfire for 100 miles or so. I then replaced broken clips and I still have missfire on idle. Its constantly on 5 cylinders from start up, clear white smoke out the back and very very rich. In removing each coilpack clip one at a time and the car changing to 4 cylinders on all but one I feel I have found the culprit, the 3rd plug from the front (not sure which cylinder this is) can't be sparking as the tone of the engine didnt change when the clip was disconnected. This clip was replaced with a new one and checked several time so it shouldn't be that... Should I test the coilpack for a certain voltage (if so what should it read) or is there something else I am overlooking? Thank you all in advance for your help. Adam

Hmmm, spoken to Steve and it looks as though I need to get the barel out and get the key number as the chasis number only provides the key details on UK spec... Looks like il be breaking in... Guigsy - any tips? -

Thank you Branners! He sorted me out the diode for my alternator and was very helpful so fingers crossed he can!....just hope what I need is not in my glove box...the way things are going I wouldnt be surprised! Thanks all -

Even with an import?? Il give them a call first thing and see - would be much simpler and cheaper if I could do that! Thanks chaps...wonder if I can do it in time for my MOT retest on Friday..just to thicken the plot! Thanks again -
...just one..me It looks as though I have lost my one and only Supra key (already told myself off for only having one key so please no more) Im certain my only option is for a locksmith to make new ones up using the barrel but just wanted to make sure there was no other suggestions...Also would the lock smith be able to get in the car or am I going to have to do that to provide him with the barrel?? Thanks

Just a quick post to thank Darran (Wile e coyote) and Dan (Supradan) for taking time out of their weekend to meet up with me and give me their advice and help..it truely sums up the spirit of the site! Iv remained hidden in cornwall for three years but now plan to make it to meets and convoys where possible ...and any doubts about keeping the Supra have now been washed away..along with the segull poo and road grime! Loved the cars guys! as soon as the market pics up again I can see myself spending a l o t of money, lol Hope to see you again soon. Adam

Haha thats ok mate, any advice is helpful at the moment! A standard grade of plugs it is then, any recommendations on make of coolant if not the red for life..and yes its on about 70k so I guess it wont harm to do the oils, im sure there are guides on here somewhere ...I dont know if there is any connection to the 'plug problem' but quite recently the wastegate/actuator has sounded a lot louder, not when under load but when stationary, and gently reving up to about 2k...it only did it after a fitted my new alternator and belt so im wondering if I have left anything loose.... wen it rains it pours eh?!! lol

Thank you for the info and advice chaps, I shall definately start with the plugs, they have been in for nearly 3 years and 9000 miles so wouldnt surprise me if thats all it is. No Ian the car is standard other than Blitz Nur spec..which is now thick black inside due to the smoke its been emmiting on start up.. Plugs are most likely OEM as it was imported 3 years ago and iv had to do nothing to it (other than oil and filter change)..which leads me onto my other question; I checked the coolant - well my dad did as im colour blind and red and brown are the colours i struggle with most - and all looks fine, along with transmission fluid and diff oil levels but as mentioned I have had it for 3 years and done 9k miles and technically not had a service...im a strong believer if its not broken then dont fix it..not sure if the car would still benefit from full 'fluid service'..especially if i look to sell as there is technically no UK service history.... any thoughts?? Thank you Nic, its a standard J spec TT, can you send my quote via PM for all you mentioned (plugs, connectors and breather hoses, and delivery to cornwall) thank you very much, also if the car I got a cooler grade of plugs with the intension of ever going BPU how wud that affect the running of the car having them fitted now??

Parkland is only 15 miles away from me, always been reluctant to go direct to dealers as there is always a premium, that said if they know the cars its worth it!!...do you have a tt, import?? What have they done for you so far? Looking at a service but there is also some misfire on start up (probably plugs/coilpack) and i want to check the vsv due to occassional pre spool issues... can they be trusted?lol Thanks
