Quick question for you knowledgeable lot - what old banger would be the cheapest to insure?
I ask because having worked outside the UK for more than 2 years, I have now lost all of my NCB. Because of the nature of my employers insurance (and the places I was working), no-one will give me any NCB bonus for having driven a company car.
So it would seem that the safest option is to buy an old banger for a few quid, insure and leave it on the drive to rot. I tried insuring my father-in-law's 1981 v8 Range Rover (which is a restoration project and doesn't even move!), but the best quotes I had were over $1500 (I mean pounds - there's no pound sign on this bloody keyboard!) third-party only, 29 years old living in Northern Ireland, clean licence and no crashes within the last 5 years
I'm currently thinking an old Fiesta, but please feel free to add any opinions
