"Tubing" the front part of the chassis - Questions
ManwithSupra replied to ManwithSupra's topic in Supra Chat
There are a couple of reasons, firstly it will make working on the front of the engine MUCH easier then it is at the moment (as the engine is much further back from the stock location), Secondly having a removable front section will mean it will be easier to repair if I come off and hit something hard. There "may" be a slight weight saving over stock, depending on how much tube is used, I was thinking of having the main support sections made out of T45 tube and the rest, carbon fibre to keep the weight down. Weight saving isnt the main thing. -
As said before, straighten sills, shot blast it, treat the rust (if any left) get some square tube and then weld up either side of the sill where the jacking sections are, galvafroid it all... then paint over with stoneguard paint.

I have seen this a lot on the drifting world but now i am seeing more and more on Time attack and converted road/race cars. Its not new by any means but its got me thinking.. If you are chopping off the wing support after the suspension tower is this not going to compromise the integrity of the tower (despite it still being attached to the chassis legs)? I know people weld or bolt in a tubular front section for the bumper support structure as this is benefical if you have an accident at the track, you can either replace one section or remove the entire front end and bolt a new one on (depending how you do it) however I wondered how much difference it would make in terms of the support. I was thinking about doing this on the Supra over winter, having a metal tube front but with all the wing/light/rad etc support parts made of carbon as this would again lower weight, but before I take an angle grinder to it I wanted to explore the pro's and cons first. Picture to let you know what I mean and well to get people talking.

I find it odd how much resprays vary, especially these days. I understand the ovens cost a lot to run and there are lots of environmental factors, licenses etc which ramp the prices up, but for instance I was quoted by a reputable local company to respray a car for me same in the same colour etc and it came out to just shy of £3000... and that was with me removing all glass, lights, everything that can be removed within reason to get the car sprayed. I then got a quote for another car I had which was just an empty shell on a jig along with doors, bonnets, boot all supplied as well.. same job but they said £1800 - I questioned why it was the case as both cars were effectively the same size, using solid colours, with the relevant major parts removed and they could not give me a honest answer as to why it was cheaper, despite the fact they were actually spraying more of the empty shell (engine bay)... where did the extra cost come from then?? the brown paper and masking tape and paying someone to mask it up?? Yes of course that little lot comes to £1200 doesn't it. Seems to me, prices as based on what first the actual cost of the paint and labour is, then they pull out of the air what seems they can get away with how much they can load that price based on the car they are spraying.

Nicked a photo from another thread.. It does not need to have all the screw holes in tact, neither does it need the light clusters on it. All I am after is the bare unit.

What race event is it? What specs does it need to be MSA or FIA? Where are you based?

Opinions / cost estimates of wrapping a Supra?
ManwithSupra replied to Action Jackson's topic in Supra Chat
I had my track car wrapped. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/12486099_1676204589326000_593555374659814560_o.jpg Cost around £2k but it was a custom design. -
Unfortunately investing in a car like the supra is going to be a bit of a gamble and this is mainly due to its following. I for one wish that the films like the Fast and the furious didn't feature a Supra, yes it put the car on the map to the masses (a lot of people stopped and took notice of it then) and that's good in some ways (lots of parts, upgrades) and that is totally fine, however in my opinion the car and its pre f&f following got totally screwed over with all the silly outrageous bodykits, stupid mods and with people calling each other bro wearing border shorts, backwards caps and biting their fists which ultimately meant it lost its "pedigree". Another good example is the BMW E46 m3... the standard M3's are cheap as chips and available to the masses, the CSL however is now a collector and is worth mid ££,£££'s One of my mates made a wise investment on a CSL around 6/7 years ago now when the CSL was at its lowest price due to the economy, the car is now worth double what he paid for it and its still going up. So it very much depends on what model/trim of car you go for, the Market value could increase as they get rarer (for 100% stock UK examples) as purists want to collect them, but the models which I think could suffer like the NA's and Auto TT's etc I cant see really going up that much, not to say they wont but its more of a gamble on those models. I see a lot of people on here saying save up for a house etc and yes that's good advice. Honestly though you also have to be realistic.. saving up a descent deposit on a house on your own with a 25k salary is going to take you a long time. You are a young guy (which I would imagine has a pretty active social life) that 25k is probably not going to go far. Yep if you do manage to purchase a house, then you still run the risk of loosing or gaining money. Hell you could spend 5 years saving a deposit and finally get a mortgage buy a house and then a year later the housing market collapses.. Whenever I have made a big purchase like a car or a house or whatever, I have always checked if I can afford the monthly payment twice over if I am using finance.. because IT IS going to cost you more than just the monthly payment... it always does, no matter what you buy, a house, a car, a wife.. whatever. The nice thing about doing it that way is that anything you don't spend goes into savings.. for those nice holidays, mods etc. Yes it stops you for purchasing things you can actually afford right there and then but it saves you a massive headache when it goes wrong. My opinion... you are young, if you can honestly afford it along with the running costs and your lifestyle and possibly make a little money if it increases in value and likewise can swallow the pain if it does goes down in value, then I say go for it. If you want to make your money work for you then yes invest it in property however there are risks with that as well. If you want money to work for you, invest in gold, it will always have a descent value and it has been increasing in value again after a short decline (I wish I invested in some gold in 2000, £5k of gold then would now be worth £24k)

Fair play mate, as long as you are happy with them that is all that matters

I think they are ok, probably suited more to race/track car than road car, but thats my personal opinion. The only issue I have with it is...you dont have Toyo tyres Good to hear they have held up on the road, I may think about getting some for my track car, I still find them a little marmite so I am not sure if it would good or not.

Interested in accusump mate.

Pondering life, expectations, achievements, destiny.
ManwithSupra replied to Pudsey's topic in Off Topic
Expectations - Its good to have a goal, but don't let that goal flood other important things like life, family and love out of your life, you will only be able achieve your expectations with those other three helping you along Achievements - It depends how you you measure achievement, I personally look at failure as an achievement.. everything you do whether you succeed or fail there are positives you can take which can help you with your expectations. Destiny - No one knows whats going to happen tomorrow, there is no point in pondering destiny, have a direction a goal as mentioned in Expectations and try to measure your future destiny by your achievements, however as no one has no idea what will happen in the future so its best to carry on as you plan to. -

Yep, exhaust wrap is yet to go on. There is also a sheild that goes between the exhaust and the gearbox
