  1. Just realized I never put up a picture of what the results were. Pretty happy with the results so far https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79394850/IMAG0351.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79394850/IMAG0353.jpg This weighs 525 grams (untrimmed), whereas the panel its replacing weighs 1.2kg
  2. Preparing more carbon today for lots of carbon panel work over the next few days. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79394850/IMAG0347.jpg
  3. Yeah possibly, I suppose it depends on the bonnet, I was thinking directly in relation to my bonnet with the big center vent for the V-Mount. Could prove to be a bit tricky, although saying that there are a few ways around tricky bits a Standard supra bonnet, or any standard bonnet with no cutouts etc will be as easy as doing flat panels. With regards patience, I am not usually one for it... it is frustrating to wait for 36/48 hours to get to the point of demoulding You can cure quicker than this by using a faster catalyst but then you run the risk of the resin becoming unusable for infusion after about 15 mins, this is OK on small parts but for large infusions its a no go... This is one of the reasons I am building an oven, not only will it make the carbon part more temperature stable, it will also cut curing time to around 6-8 hours, which is FAR more reasonable.
  4. Cheers Chris I am also in the middle of building a PID controlled post curing composites oven so I can increase the working temp of the carbon panels/parts as some of them will get near very hot items. Once all the flat panels have been replaced I will be also be making full carbon doors & wings (none of this fiberglass backed stuff) maybe even attempt a bonnet (We will see as these are hard). - - - Updated - - - Cheers mate
  5. This particular panel is going to be the replacement of one of the transmission tunnel panels. In the end all of these panels will be replaced.
  6. Well chuffed this new panel works out 82% lighter then the aluminum panel its replacing... and its very ... very strong. Once all aluminum panels/brackets/parts have been replaced with carbon we will be looking at a massive saving moving forward... more to follow.
  7. Whifbitz are a well renowned and fully trusted trader. They simply do not sell rubbish. You will be fine purchasing a car off them.
  8. Done some carbon work today lots more carbon to come.. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1.0-9/10246298_621838587890788_7622123242482211011_n.jpg https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1.0-9/10171841_621838617890785_3763552650902844690_n.jpg https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1.0-9/10176107_621838634557450_2233583000174783905_n.jpg https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1.0-9/10150552_621838671224113_48682789768615588_n.jpg
  9. Haha thats fair enough mate For now getting some temp readings is key, I may run the stock stuff again for one outing and see what the temps are like as I have some in my workshop ready to go. I may be blowing the whole thing out of proportion and it may be fine but I would rather know whats going on with it then leave it.
  10. Ah Cheers, Chris Yeah for the meantime I think I will pop on a temp strip on the underside near the drain hole and see how hot the case is getting, of course it wont be that accurate but at least I can see what is going on down there. Ideally I want to get a temp sensor so I can monitor it constantly on my steering wheel display or on the Dash2. I am pretty sure my dash reads the CAN signal from the Syvecs so will need to wire the sensor into the ECU. I was thinking of mounting the sensor in the Drain plug, like this... With regards the oil type used, I thought it was generally recommended against using anything other than the ATF oil for the V160 boxes. You are right MPG isn't a concern to me and I always do a couple of laps for warm up (1 lap if its a dry warm day) so wont need quick changes right away. The trans oil needs changing now anyway so I will replace with the Motul Gear 300 if you happily recommend it for use with the V160.
  11. A thread resurrection back from 2008 here... I was thinking as my car has a heat aided diffuser, there isn't going to be a huge amount of cool air running past the cooling fins on the underside of the V160. I have noticed after say 40 mins of pounding around the track my transmission tunnel gets VERY hot due to the underside being sealed from the cooler outside air. Does anyone know what the max temp these gearboxes can work at?? I am thinking of getting a Cooler installed and controlled by the Syvecs just to be on the safe side but it would be good to know. Currently I have no issues with the gearbox but I don't want to be shortening its life if I am operating it outside the temp window.. For those that don't know I don't run a standard chassis... here is a picture of the trans tunnel https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t31.0-8/902867_454567894617859_86649920_o.jpg Here is a picture from the underside of the car when the flat floor was being made https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/t1.0-9/530992_386588114749171_1025754743_n.jpg
  12. This one ?? [video=youtube;eVmJ-bW7IpM] I laughed so hard when I saw that. What the hell did they expect!
  13. Hmmm lots more carbon fibre cloth and Soric core mat... I wonder what that could mean??...some BIG updates to follow soon https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1.0-9/1495455_620018268072820_2358882138022918099_n.jpg
  14. NOS only became popular on the Supra because of the F&F films. I regularly get asked at the track if my car is running NOS - only because its a Supra. Of course I say no, it would be better suited to a drag car not a track car. They then point at my Nitron remote adjusters and say yeah you are what are they then...
  15. I wonder when that last had a service... I don't have anything laying about that I know of I am afraid, If I do find some bits (I am having a big house/garage clear out atm) I will pop you a PM to see if you want any of it. I am in Hampshire too (near Southampton) so you would be welcome to pick up.
  16. I've seen cars from 2005 being raced in stock or banger racing. I don't think age is really a consideration... if its in a scrap yard and its cheap it will be used.
  17. TDI is around 3hours from me Advanced is around 1.5 hours closer. Is TDI generally the better Dyno out of the two? I would want to use the best really. I will be booking Ryan to do the work. Shame its seems there are no Hub Dynos in the hampshire area.
  18. Now my fuel system is done I need to get myself to a hub dyno to make sure the fueling is all correct (perhaps have a little more power too :eyebrows:) I was just wondering if anyone knew of a Hub Dyno in the hampshire Area if not, no issues I will have to pop to Advanced in Nothamptonshire. I need a Hub Dyno as the flat floor on my car is too low to go on a standard dyno :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
  19. I would imagine he did, he ran wets when we were at Castle Combe a few years ago. Slicks in rain would be ... awkward However as his driving proves he could be another Senna when it comes to wet weather - (EDIT Ha that rhymes )
  20. Looking forward to having a look I must join you up at a track at your end at some point..
  21. I can only see it being an option once the V160/161 supply dries up or gets even more expensive the rarer they get, However as Chris as said how will they stand up to the sort of torque a Turbo car produces. I would say it may be ok on a stocker TT but anything more might just be a waiting game.
  22. These look to be the same arms that I was looking at a few years ago but were in Australia at the time. Perhaps they are now an agent for whoever makes them in Australia. I thought about it but like you but I couldn't find anyone who had installed them which is a little unnerving. They look a little cheaply made (reflected in cost) and if you plan to use them on the road the ride is going to be awful due to the rose joints. For peace of mind, if you are going to trust your life in a set of suspension arms then either use OEM or use a proven part like Ikeya.
  23. Finally got around to checking out my lines kit today, that along with the hubstands and Intercomp corner weighing kit should allow me to re-set the car up now there has been some movements of things like fuel tank etc https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t1.0-9/69583_611775592230421_1794593103_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t1.0-9/10006493_611775625563751_1590117979_n.jpg https://scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/10001462_611775672230413_1270988523_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1.0-9/1454628_611775705563743_191476809_n.jpg
