The prices are still being bantered around. I am trying to get them to settle on something which will suit my needs, I will update once things have been agreed. Although a nice little thing, I have decided to go for the Geartronics full closed loop pneumatic air shift system for the new gearbox setup. This will mainly reduce wear on the dog rings as well as having clutch less downshifts, it will also speed up the gearchange and allow both hands on wheel at all times, it will also stop over revving on manual downshifts Should be fun -
Welcome back. This is why I never left.

Get a new rad cap... at the max £20 and you dont have to be a scientist to replace one. If you could not find where the coolant came from its most likely from the expansion bottle. The way the cooling system works on the Supra is that the Pressure cap on the radiator keeps the pressure of the coolant around 1bar which keeps the boiling temp down. (higher pressure means higher boiling point). If the pressure goes too high then the cap starts to vent the pressure into the expansion bottle to stop splitting the rad. If the Pressure cap is no longer working it will vent the pressure to the expansion bottle when the pressure is no where near 1 bar. Then if you give it the beans, the coolant pressure and temp will increase, it will fill the expansion bottle and then overflow and overheat. When the engine cools down and the pressure decreases in the radiator it sucks the coolant back from the expansion bottle and back into the radiator.. 90% of cooling issues on the Supra is down to the cap. Get the cap changed

Me too. I haven't missed it on TV... that must be saying something.

I'll be honest I will never know the difference in Economy between a Stock TT Auto and a Stock TT Manual. My Manual is for track use only and therefore Economy does not come into it IIRC the Auto I used to get around 20 odd MPG on a normal drive. I think its around 22-25 MPG on a manual, others can verify.

I have had both Auto and Manual (although the manual I am using for the track) The Auto box is a lovely box for its age, very smooth, quick changing and a pleasure to use. It also has a manual mode which means you can select 1st 2nd and D if you want to feel more involved. The Manual is pretty agricultural (Clunky) however that inspires confidence when changing gear and is more involved to drive (it being a manual).

Carbon Skinning is the best if you want the look of carbon. The other methods dont even come close (HydroDipping or that Vinyl stuff)

On other news, after going to the Autosport show on Friday I found a company called TotalSim (http://www.totalsimulation.co.uk/wp/) that does car 3D scanning and CFD. After speaking with them on email at length today I should be getting the entire car 3D scanned (including the flat floor and diffuser) and getting some CFD done on its current setup. Will be nice to see visually where the improvements can be made On another note, it seems that my car suits the Toyota Sprint Series in the Pro Tuner Class so thats nice to fall back on if TA falls through. -
Sorry 4163cc went off subject there..

Ha nah she loves cars, I am pulling your leg about her fainting, she is actually been quite supportive about it (although I am using wife numbers which we all know is only 20% of the actual value) Got me thinking actually she knows a number of Girls who do grid work, promotions etc I wonder if I should have a few in body Lycra With MKIVSupra.net on their buffers and behinds. I will be walking down the pit line like James Hunt..
-
Ha Knowing my Missus she would be well game for doing that anyway, she has already joked about it. I am not sure if thats good or not lol. She likes doing promotional car work

I dont think we will ever finish fettling with our cars teehehee (wife has just fainted.. God bless her she thought the seq gearbox was the last thing)

Welcome to the growing list of people who use their Supra's for tracking Its nice that you are not just interested in drifting, it seems that's all people think these cars are good for, either going in a straight line on a drag strip or drifting around bends all day. There are a number of us now who like circuit work so there is plenty of advice/knowledge even from traders (Whifbitz used to race the Supra in Time Attack and Euro Saloons) take lots of advice from the "Nums" you will soon know who they are put it this way, why the hell are they not racing drivers for a living I will never know. As with anything you will only be as good and reliable as the weakest/most worn part on the car. Therefore looking at changing the bushes, sorting the brakes, making sure there are no leaks, getting descent rubber etc is a great start, its amazing that something as small as a basic rubber seal can put you out for the entire day! When it comes to bushes, there seems to be a divided opinion on them. Some will say that changing to poly bushes is the way to go, others will say stick with OEM and replace the entire Arm. Of which you need to look at your budget on it and make the decision yourself, poly bushes are cheap but a massive PITA to fit, replacing the arms with new OEM or something upgraded like Ikeya is ££££'s. In my view if you have knackered bushes and cant afford to replace with new Arms etc then poly is the next best thing, they WILL be hundreds of times better than a knackered bush. I have had my last (road) supra's bushes replaced with poly and it was an amazing difference, however with my track car I will be using Ikeya Formula or Marcs Engineering arms with solid bushes. When it comes to brakes, again a bit of a divided opinion, more based on pedal feel rather than anything else. Jspec brakes are usually passed off as rubbish even on the road (I don't know I have never used them) so I will go with the masses and say if you have them, nothing wrong with using them on track just use descent fluid and descent pads but expect them to fade. The general consensus is to use the UK spec brake calipers and discs, along with descent pads, braided lines and descent fluid. They do certainly hold up well when on track (ask the Nums brothers) however i find the feel of the UK brakes to be particularity distant. Of course you can go for a Big brake kit... there is a whole massive thread on this on the forum, I suggest you trawl through it and make your own decision if you come to wanting a big brake kit. Still kinda talking about braking... tyres.. again your brakes are only going to work as hard as your tyres have grip and therefore using descent rubber will also let you go around corners quicker, power down earlier, decrease brake distance which will mean you will be quicker around a track. I use R888's on mine and they are fantastic, Toyo have just announced though that they are EOL'ing the R888 and releasing the R888R which will be the replacement (different design) other people use brands like Federal FZ201's which are slightly cheaper than the Toyo's but still offer some descent adhesion on the black stuff. Of course there are track tyres from Michelin etc etc. but they are very very expensive. If you cant afford a dedicated track tyre then get the best tyre you can afford... after all its this and only this that keeps you on the road.

Got some news today by way of a really nice email from the Time Attack Championship coordinator. It looks like they will allow engine movements so as long as all the usual safety aspects are satisfactory as they had a lot of feedback over Autosport about engine movements. I need to provide them some more details and the car may need to be looked at by their chief scrutineer before any event takes place. However its a little more positive news. -
I'm not actually sure what I am looking at in that photo?? Can someone explain to me lol

Yeah defo mate, hindsight is not such a wonderful thing when you sat in a wheelchair (or worse) because you thought "it will be ok" Hence why I have the same personal fire and safety kit as you (different brands apart from the HANs), Welded roll cage, Plumbed in fire extinguisher, a crash resistant, explosion suppressant fuel cell in a metal container surrounded by a steel cage welded to the car behind a crash bar. -

Me too, it would be a shame for sure. I guess we will see in a couple of weeks to see if they have put the regs in place. If not then i can see what can be done to get around it.
