Nic
My Supra has been invaded by some very weird scary looking insects. Never seen them before, first noticed them the other day and everyday since, went to my car tonight and the bonnet is swarming with the pesky little things. Had a camera with me so took a picture to see if someone could identify what they are. They are totally white about the size of an ant with weird spikes all over them. When you touch them they jump like flees. Thankfully they are only on the outside of the car and so get blown off when I drive, if they start coming in the car though I'm going to seriously freak! Anyone know what they are?

Yes they are kind of green fly like, they don't have wings and they hop about a metre when you touch them. They don't move just sit there on my car looking creepy :eek2:

Tannhauser
Trying to think what these could be is driving me nuts. It could be some sort of leaf hopper or tree hopper nymph (immature form). Some of them have spines and are pale. But the photo looks like they've got really long back legs, which doesn't fit. Nic, do they have a long abdomen? And do they definitely have six legs? SupraStar 3000
LOL Nic, Its the "invasion of the body snatchers" just don't let them impregnate you!
Tannhauser
Woolly Hackberry aphid? I thought you'd made that up until I googled it. It's the right size and colour, but I can't see any sort of aphid jumping very far? I think it might be some sort of orthopteran, maybe in an immature stage. Possibly it's the e-manage that has attracted them.
Nic
I actually thought they were little spiders at first but I'm not sure if they have enough legs, but it is difficult to tell because of the spiky bits on the body. I'll try and get a closer look and better description later ...if I dare Oh and if it is any help they seen especially fascinated with my wing mirrors!! Todd
they hop about a metre when you touch them. If something 400 times the size of you came alone and started feeling you up, I'll bet you jump a lot higher than a meter
Nic
Just been out to get a closer look, they definitely have 6 tiny legs and look like aphids or mites, the small ones are all white and have 2 rows of bristles down their back. There are some slightly bigger ones that seem to be developing brown bodies. Some of them were crawling around a bit this morning and if I got too close would jump very quickly, had one land on my tshirt and another in my hair!! :eek2: They were all over my car today, also noticed there were some on the banana tree that I'm parked next to.....
