hadyn
Fitted this over the weekend, replacing the stock plastic intake pipe to a Blitz SUS with this: Feedback gratefully received
mikeyb10supra
Honestly.....get the stock air box back on

RobSheffield
I think you know that the OEM box would be better, but i ran a Blitz SUS as i liked the sound. Does look perhaps a little far back into the bay though.
hadyn
I do know the stock air box is better for performance, I just wanted to try something different to keep me interested I also removed the BOV too. Car ran 13.3s with stock intake pipe and Blitz sus, so I'm wondering if this will make any difference? I have been blowing the intercooler to plenum hose off since I did this mod... Homer
It's positioned perfectly for the fan to blow hot air onto the filter. Hardly ideal, but couldn't you get a silicon or metal section made up to bring the filter forward 5-6 inches, it'll allow you to make a sheild to cover the rest of the side and back of the filter. Robert
The short pipe, in some way makes the heat shield a bit useless, due to it being closer to the engine and not using the shield 100%, you could make it more efficient, ideally the pipe needs to be longer and an additional source of cold air from maybe where the SMIC would sit. hadyn
I'm planning on hacking up some silicon to possibly push the filter farther down.
hadyn
I didnt know that the length of intake pipe could effect performance?
Robert
well in this situation it would be better being longer to get away from the radiant heat coming off the block/turbo area and using the shield abit better
hadyn
Ok, got busy with a few bits of spare silicon and heres the results: Pic of the BOV removed and all pipes bunged up:
kieren1234
I would personaly revert back to the stock airbox as said above. Looks good mate but stock box will be better as this will suck alot of heat in from the engine bay i would imagine.
_Shane_
Looks good there dude, same as my setup

I know all about the pros of the stock airbox, I'm not a n00b I just wanted to have a bit of fun. I'm keeping the outside of the car looking totally stock and just want to bling up my engine bay a bit. Its all good fun.
w41k3r
very nice i like it jus simple but blingy
Branners
Looks much better with the pipework extended. I would suggest you have a UK spec chrome air intake pipe as it was way too short and brought the filter to close to the turbos. But your use of silicon hose seems to have resolved that. Are you still SMIC or FMIC btw?
SteveL
Haydn, now you gone this far, maybe try something like the pic of mine below. You can keep the stock air feeds and it shields against the heat from the engine bay. Ric
whats it like without the BOV, or do you have another somewhere
hoff
Looks much better now Hadyn:) I need to have a play with my set up to make it better. My air box wont go in with the FMIC pipework.

I have a Miami GT SMIC that I fitted 3 odd years ago and its great

hadyn
whats it like without the BOV, or do you have another somewhere No BOV in the system now whatsoever. Makes no difference to performance and basically sounds like the HKS SSQV on the 1st turbo. This is probably due to the HKS being wound in pretty tight and that the air is coming out of the Blitz sus creating the pssscht sound. I have a Miami GT SMIC that I fitted 3 odd years ago and its great if it was FMIC you can cut underneath the ait filter and channel cool air in that way, but thats not an option with the SMIC. hadyn
I think the stock air feeds top and bottom do a pretty good job at ducting cold air to the filter anyway IMO...
