Not fucking happy with sony at all. I refuse to pay £145 I'm just gonna rip the shitter apart get the game out then bin it, last sony I ever buy, totally not happy:soap:

I thought you can redownload your games you've bought from PSN via the download history list on your account?

Do you know what's wrong with it? is it HDD gone? Motherboard? CPU? Power supply? Maybe a 3rd party repair place could fix it for you cheaper chap. I mean if it's the HDD that's gone and they're just giving you a generic quote then it'll be sub £50 to buy a 320Gb HDD and put it in yourself.

Sorry to hear about it though :( You've reminded me I need to back my PS3 up again!

Hmmm.

Something to try first - flip the power switch on the back (to OFF). Take out the power plug. Leave it 2 minutes. Put the plug back in, flip the switch and try to power it on again.

BTW European consumer electronics warranty is longer than a year ;) It's 2 years - so you can get a replacement if it's a defect until October 2009. Unless you had a power-surge (which isn't a defect - it's an accident)

Trying to help :) The latter link shows someone winning a replacement telly off Tesco after 18 months. All consumer electronics should be covered for a period of 24 months. Was on BBC Breakfast a few weeks ago too

If you took a broken television back to the shop where you'd bought it a year and a month ago and were told you were out of luck as the guarantee had run out, would you accept this? Or would you demand a repair or replacement? Sadly the overwhelming majority of us would probably accept the shop's word that it was out of guarantee.

The good news is that EU rules mean you can take goods back up to two years later and obtain a replacement, even if the guarantee has expired.

Staff at the European Commission told Guardian Money this week that shoppers have an extremely strong case for demanding a repair, replacement or refund on items up to two years old – the minimum guarantee for all member states, including the UK. It is not a new rule, but it seems few shoppers or retailers are familiar with it.

The manufactures "1 yr guarantee" is that retailers so generously "give" you is in addition to your rights under the UK Sale of Goods act - and the EU directive(?) not instead of.

Take proof of purchase and stand your ground. They will try to fob you off with "sorry out of the 1 yr etc" knowing full well your rights under the above and taking advantage of your ignorance and not wanting to make a scene.

Mine won't read disc's anymore, buggered up when playing MGS4 a few months back, and turned it off at the back first rather then the front...read up on forum's and it's a common problem, so common that Sony still refuse to fix it for free unless it still has it's 1 year warranty, money-grabbing at it's best unfortunately :(

but still need to get mine fixed..

Mine died not so long ago, Turned out it just needed a master reset. The sony helpline could not be more helpful. They said if it needed to be sent of it would not cost to fix it. Try ringing again and talk to a different chap.

Any games you have paid for online WILL NOT cost you to down load again. :)

Also i'd recomend doing a master reset every few month's.

If you google it, it will tell you for sure cos i don't want to tell you the wrong thing.

You do something like turn it on via the front, Then turn it off, Then on again but hold down your finger untill it beep's three times. This then opens up a totally different screen that i'd never seen before. You can do a few things on this page. One is a hard reset / Mater reset, The others i think were delete hdd contents or something along those lines. I did all this on the phone with the sony chap telling me step by step. Never thought to remember it or go back into the screen again. Hope that help's. Really sped the console up though. If you switch it off at the back, it corrups data with gets cleared by doing this reset. :)

I thought your account was specific to you console?

If you have a friend with a ps3 online you can log into your account via their ps3. Just type in your password etc. Never thought to try and download games i've paid for though, That would then be on your mate's hardrive for free. ?? Will look into that, Unsure if it would work. But i no call of duty scores etc are saved online. :)

Nope it's not linked.

As for if they find two active consoles on the network having downloaded content from the single account (i.e give a mate your account details, redownload everything then log off) I don't know what Sony may do to you...

Well I hope the chap gets a free replacement :) I'd be going down to the store and arguing that the EU gives a two year consumer protection against defects.

Or the master reset works :)

Thats the laser giving up, really common.

I can fix it for you if your not willing to have a blast yourself.

Sony cant do nothing about it

My mate next door uses all his mates online stuff and vise versa.

All you do is have an extra user account not named with the others log on.

You log on with the user account and download to your ps3 and the other console can do the same.

Than log out and log into your account and you can use everything they have.

edit missed a bit out;)
